The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is an international Catholic organisation with a mission to accompany, serve and advocate on behalf of refugees and other forcibly displaced persons. JRS undertakes services at national and regional levels with the support of an international office in Rome. Founded in November 1980 as a work of the Society of Jesus, JRS was officially registered on 19 March 2000 at the Vatican State as a foundation. JRS programmes are found in 51 countries, providing assistance to: refugees in camps and cities, individuals displaced within their own countries, asylum seekers in cities, and to those held in detention centres. The main areas of work are in the field of education, emergency assistance, healthcare, livelihood activities and social services. At the end of 2016, more than 733,400 individuals were direct beneficiaries of JRS projects.

Introduction

Job Summary

RS is currently looking for skilled and experienced Logistics Assistants to be included in a talent pool of candidates for the various locations within which JRS serves in Nigeria. The Logistics Assistant will support the implementation of JRS projects in the various field offices in Nigeria. S/He is mainly responsible for all logistics activities in the office, including Procurement, Transport/Movement Management, Storage and Assets.

Key Responsibilities of the position

Role/Mission

  • Under the guidance of the Project Director plan and prepare the weekly activities of the logistics department.
  • Ensure accuracy of all inventories, manage stock levels.
  • Receive, verify purchased goods, and review bills, purchase orders and invoices.
  • Facilitate the movement of JRS personnel in the field: flight bookings, communication of departure and arrival times to staff and drivers.
  • Coordinate the transport of project equipment, receiving of procured goods.
  • Plan the movement of devices, track their maintenance and repair, as well as the generator and other devices.
  • Prepare an orderly list for JRS goods and create contingency plans to ensure that all implemented logistics programs work successfully.
  • Reception and accommodation of staff at the guesthouse.
  • Overall supervision of project Drivers.
  • Follow up of the maintenance of the office and the guesthouse.
  • Organize files manually and electronically.
  • Submit to the Project Director/National Logistics Officer a weekly and monthly report of activities .
  • Report to the hierarchy any cases of loss or lack of material.
  • Propose actions that are useful for improving the department.
  • Keep the logbook and vehicle maintenance registers up to date, record official travel, daily mileage, fuel consumption, technical screening and insurance renewal dates, and prepare a monthly vehicle report to be forwarded to the National Logistics Coordinator.
  • Promote PSEA and safeguarding standards within JRS and amongst the beneficiaries it serves.

Required Profile

Qualification

  • Minimum of HND/ BSc in a relevant field.

Experience and Skills

  • At least three (3) years’ relevant experience in an INGO.
  • Traceable references from previous employers.
  • Good knowledge of Donor rules and regulations and donor requirements
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power point)
  • Responsive to emergency situations.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with prioritization

Qualities

  • Adhere to JRS values and abide by the code of conduct and other policies.
  • Proficient command of the English language (written and oral).
  • Knowledge of Kanuri and Hausa is required.
  • Proven work experience in multicultural and stressful environments.
  • Ability to adapt to working conditions and tasks that may change with the reality of the field.
