Job Title: Short Term Staff – Driver, Liaison Office

Location: Asmara, Eritrea

The Complex

  • The Vice-Presidency for Regional Development, Integration and Business Delivery (RDVP) is responsible for operational relevance, efficiency and effectiveness of the Bank Group’s operational programs, and activities.
  • The RDVP will ensure that the Bank operates successfully across its Regional Member Countries (RMCs) and oversee the full implementation of all aspects of the Bank’s Regional Directorates.

The Hiring Department

  • Within the Regional Development, Integration and Business Delivery Complex (RDVP), the Bank has five (5) Regional Development, Integration and Business Delivery Directorates, one in each region of Africa: North, South, East, West, and Central.
  • Each Regional Directorate is headed by a Director General (DG) and is staffed with the relevant sectoral functions and administrative capabilities for rapid delivery of services to client countries.
  • The Regional Directorates provide overall strategic direction to country offices within the regions and are responsible for the Bank’s operations, business development, project management and overall effective delivery of the Bank’s High 5s of Light up and Power Africa, Feed Africa, Industrialize Africa, Integrate Africa, and Improve the Quality of Life for the People of Africa.
  • Under the Directorate General of the East Africa Region, the Eritrea Liaison Office of the African Development Bank has been established to strengthen policy dialogue between the Bank, Government and other stakeholders; improve performance of the project portfolio and support coordination with other development partners.

The Position

  • The Driver will provide reliable and safe driving services to the Bank’s Eritrea Liaison Office and perform office messenger duties amongst other functions.

Key Functions
Under the supervision of the Deputy Director General, the incumbent will be responsible for the following:

  • Support the Operations with focus on providing safe transport for the Deputy Director General, the Office staff, visiting missions and official delegation of the Office on official duties, within Eritrea as and when required;
  • Transport the Bank Staff and its officials or as otherwise assigned in the conduct of the Bank’s operations;
  • Ensure routine maintenance for the vehicles of the Office;
  • Perform office messenger duties;
  • Always represent the Bank in a professional manner with respect to appearance and conduct;
  • Ensure the cleaning of the vehicles, keep records of official travel, daily mileage, fuel consumption, oil changes, lubrication etc.;
  • Ensure that the formalities provided for in the regulations are met in the event of an accident;
  • Support the protocol functions of the Bank;
  • Perform any other official duties as requested.

Competencies
The desirable skills, experience and knowledge include the following:

  • Hold at least a High School Diploma;
  • Hold a valid driver’s license with a clean track record;
  • Provide proof of release from military service;
  • Possess any additional documentation and/or certification to carry out the job;
  • Have the right to work in Eritrea;
  • Proof of citizenship or evidence of permanent residency or work authorization in Eritrea;
  • Have a minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience as a driver in an international/multinational organization, or public or private sector organization;
  • Experience and skills in minor vehicle repairs, and routine maintenance for the vehicles;
  • Possess working knowledge of the rules and regulations involved in the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of automotive equipment;
  • Demonstrated initiative; be discreet, honest and have good character;
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills;
  • Good written and oral skills in English.
  • Competence in the use of Bank standard software (Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Access). Knowledge of SAP is an added advantage
