MindAfrica Leadership Initiative (formerly known as MIND Foundation) is a not-for-profit organization that provides free learning opportunities to disadvantaged children and youth in ways that build their innovative and creative capacities. MindAfrica offers these services through after-school programs, holiday camps and other enrichment programs for children and youth. MindAfrica was incorporated in 2006 with the Corporate Affairs Commission as Mentors International Development (MIND) Foundation and later changed its name to MindAfrica Leadership Initiative in 2014, in line with its corporate vision.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: School Mentor

Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers

Job Summary

  • Are you passionate about STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) education and making a difference in the lives of young learners? Do you have expertise in design thinking and project management? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a School Mentor for the upcoming MindAfrica School Maker Faire!

Job Description
As a School Mentor, you will play a vital role in guiding and supporting school teams comprising students and teachers through a transformative journey of learning and innovation. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Training school teams on design thinking and project management concepts.
  • Providing guidance and mentorship to help teams develop creative solutions to real world challenges.
  • Facilitating collaborative workshops and activities to foster teamwork and creativity.
  • Supporting teams in preparing for a public exhibition of their project.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science, Technology, Arts, or a related field.
  • Experience working with young learners in schools or educational settings.
  • Proficiency in design thinking methodologies and project management principles.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage andmmotivate diverse groups of learners.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for nurturing creativity and innovation in young minds.
  • Availability for a 2-month engagement period, with a commitment of approximately 8 -10 hours per week.
  • Ability to commute to schools within Port Harcourt for on-site engagements (logistics will be provided).
