About us  

Hope and Rural Aid Foundation (HARAF) is a National non – profit organization functioning since 2011 but was officially registered under the corporate affairs commission (CAC) of the federal government of Nigeria in the year 2016 with registration number RN:

CAC/IT/:85536. HARAF has its head office in Yola and a sub-office in Michika LGA from where various implementations are carried out all over Adamawa state. Finally, our field office in Damaturu sees to it that our implementations are successfully carried out all over Yobe State. The organization works in the Food Security and Livelihood, Protection (Child Protection/GBV/SRHR), Education and Shelter/CCCM Thematic areas.  

 HARAF is currently implementing with Plan International on strengthening the resilience of adolescents and youths in food-insecure region of the Lake Chad by securing their livelihoods. HARAF is receiving applications for the following positions;   

Position: Youth Engagement Officer
Location: Adamawa & Borno
Experience: 3 Years
Employment Type: Contract
DURATION: 1 year

A Youth Engagement Officer should be passionate about youth development, have strong communication and interpersonal skills, and be able to create a supportive and inclusive environment for young people. They play a critical role in empowering the next generation and helping them become active, responsible, and engaged members of their communities.

JOB DESCRIPTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement youth-oriented programs and initiatives that address the needs and interests of young people.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to design programs that promote positive youth development, leadership, and empowerment.
  • Create strategies to engage and involve youth in meaningful activities and decisionmaking processes.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to young individuals, helping them set and achieve personal and educational goals.
  • Facilitate peer mentorship programs and workshops.
  • Serve as an advocate for youth, ensuring their voices are heard and their concerns are addressed within the organization or community.
  • Encourage young people to participate in advocacy efforts on issues that affect them.
  • Organize and lead workshops, training sessions, and educational programs on topics relevant to youth, such as life skills, career development, and civic engagement.
  • Foster partnerships and collaborations with community organizations, schools, and local government agencies to create opportunities for youth involvement.
  • Organize and promote community events and initiatives that engage young people.
  • Track and evaluate the impact of youth engagement programs and initiatives.
  • Collect and analyze data to measure the effectiveness of youth-focused efforts.
  • Manage budgets allocated to youth programs and ensure funds are used effectively and transparently.

Minimum requirements and Qualifications  

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, International Relations, Community development, Political Science or other relevant areas.  
  • 3 years of practical experience in a field related to community mobilization, civic engagement or related area.   
  • Must be interested and committed to Human Rights, Gender Equality and Gender issues.   
  • Must be fluent in community language, spoken and written English: Fluency in Hausa and Kanuri will be an added advantage.   
  • Proficiency in Word and Excel required.   
  • Ability to manage conflict work effectively in unstable, challenging, and fast-paced environments.   
  • Ability to keenly observe confidentiality and discretion.   
  • Ability to work as part of a team.  
  • Leadership and People Management skill  
  • Ability to set priorities, meet specific objectives, use political judgment and knowledge;   
  • Good interpersonal skills, diligence, open mindedness, and dedication.  
  • Experience in writing reports is desirable.
