Zenith of the Girl Child and Women Initiative Support is a leading girls and women’s rights organization, which promotes gender equality, reaching the most vulnerable, and promoting meaningful inclusion. The organization is a registered non-profit, non-governmental female/youth-led organization that aims to preventing and protecting women and girls against all forms of gender-based violence, abuse, and discrimination. Zenith of the Girl Child and Women Initiative Support advocates and influence policies in favor of women and girls. ZEGCAWIS create awareness and sensitize communities on the Sexual and reproductive Health rights, prevention of sexual and all forms of gender-based violence information and response services. ZEGCAWIS has been in existence since 2016, it became officially registered with cooperate affairs commission in Nigeria 2018.

We are looking for passionate, experienced and dedicated professionals for our G2L project in partnership with Care International in Nigeria (CARE) in Borno State 

JOB TITILE:  SRHR/GBV officer  
CONTRACT DURATION: 8 months (with possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability)  
LOCATION: Maiduguri  
PROJECT: G2L    
 

The purpose of this role is to coordinate and support all Sexual and Reproductive Health and Gender Based Violence related activities. The SRHR/GBV officer will work with Clinical and GBV Assistants and report to G2L Project Manager.

Dimension of Role

The SRHR/GBV officer will manage the G2L SRHR/GBV activities interfacing with other project team members S/he will also contribute to the capacity building of ZEGCAWIS field staff and volunteers on SRHR issues and GBV prevention and response.

Key Roles / Responsibilities

In collaboration with the Field Team, Project Manager and Program Coordinator, the SRHR/GBV Officer will be responsible:

  • For the coordination of the SRH and GBV activities of G2L project and ensure quality implementation of the SRH program, monitoring and evaluation of sexual and reproductive health activities in the supported health facilities.
  • To manage, provide training and technical support, and build the capacity of the GBV Assistant
  • To coordinate with other GBV service providers on case management to meet survivors’ needs
  • Effectively supervise Clinical Assistants in the performance of their duties

Staff Supervision & Development:

  • Maintain open and professional relationship with team members, promoting a strong team spirit and providing oversight and guidance to enable GBV and Clinical assistants to successfully perform in their positions.
  • Ensure the proper implementation of G2L performance management system for partner staff, including job description and on-the-job performance evaluation, regular feedback, mid-term reviews and annual performance appraisals in accordance with ZEGCAWIS Policies and Guidelines.
  • Proactively address performance issues through regular, constructive and honest feedback and coaching.
  • Identify necessary staff development and career development opportunities for direct reports.
  • Ensure that all ZEGCAWIS policies are upheld, as well as Minimum Standards for Gender Based Violence and Child Protection in Humanitarian Action, GBV Case Management Standard Operating Procedure and Core Humanitarian Standard.

Technical Expertise, Skills and Knowledge

Qualifications and Experience:

  • BA or equivalent in Social Science, Social Work, Psychology, Public Health, Human Rights or related experience
  • At least 3 years’ experience in implementing Gender Based Violence and/or SRH programs, preferable social work or case management, in humanitarian or development settings
  • At least 2 years direct experience providing services to women at risk and survivors of abuse, exploitation and violence, providing gender-sensitive counseling services, and/or developing/implementing referral pathways and case management systems
  • Previous experience supervising and managing a team in a cross-cultural settings
  • Demonstrated experience in capacity building and mentoring of staff
  • Previous experience in emergency preparedness and response

Technical Skills:

  • Provide technical and management leadership to Case Workers, or other staff in accordance with best practice and ZEGCAWIS policies, including its survivor -centered and community-based approach.
  • Ensure that solid case management, referral and information management systems are in place for appropriate identification, responses and follow-up for survivors of GBV.
  • Ensure regular communication with Project Coordinator and Education Officers to integrate appropriate GBV in emergencies priorities in program design
  • Ensure regular individual supervision, case review meetings with GBV Assistant and case conferences are conducted to reflect on progress and to accommodate the lessons learned and improve case management system accordingly.
  • Ensure the [GBV IMS Database] is set up, regularly updated, analyzed for trends in the caseload, and efficiently and confidentially managed in collaboration with the GBV IMS Officer [and relevant partner organizations and government inline ministries  (e.g. Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, etc.)
  • Conduct regular capacity assessment and capacity building including coaching and mentoring of the clinical and GBV staff, and community members to improve on the quality of project implementation.
  • Collaborate with other actors to ensure referrals to other services such as education/livelihoods interventions.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems, think and plan strategically, and communicate with key actors in a dynamic and unpredictable operating environment
  • Strong skills in monitoring, evaluation, research and conducting participatory, community-led assessments.
  • Knowledge of community mobilization and facilitation techniques
  • Computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Ability and willingness to work in a participatory manner with a diverse range of client communities

Personal qualities:

  • Team player, clear communicator, flexible, network-builder, able to handle pressure well under minimal supervision, and a commitment to ZEGCAWIS core values and gender

Languages:

  • Fluency in written and spoken English and knowledge of local language (Hausa, Kanuri)

  • Carry out any other duties and responsibilities which may be assigned by the management from time to time
