Achieving Health Nigeria Initiative (AHNi) is an indigenous non-governmental organization that promotes socio-economic development by supporting a broad range of global health programs, education, research, and livelihoods initiatives in Nigeria. In anticipation of a potential award from USAID on the Accelerating Control of the HIV Epidemic in Nigeria (ACE) with focus on the BAY (Borno, Adamawa, Yobe) states, the following positions are open for consideration to all qualified candidates. AHNi currently has its headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria.

Security Officer: will provide support in development and management of safety & security strategy and provide support to management of staff safety and security issues. S/he is responsible for supporting the SC to development and update of contingency plans, monitoring situation in operation areas, assisting the Security Coordinator in updating daily & weekly security reports on incidents, trends and risk mitigation. Develop and oversee the da- to-day conduct of office security program, ensuring adequate responses to security incidents both natural and man-made, conduct Hotel assessments in liaison with Admin/travel offices for selection of compliant facilities, conduct onsite training for staff in the field of safety including personal safety, emergency evacuations, travel safety, relocation and evacuation, ensure SOPs and regulations are current, upto-date and working effectively.

Minimum Recruitment Standards

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant certification in international relations, Security Management, risk management, humanitarian work, ex-Military – Nigeria, DSS or Nigeria Police with 5 to 6 years’ experience
  • A formal security qualification or security management training/work experience in complex environments (minimal 5 years) 
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic team experience and knowledge of personnel and organizational security issues, threat/risk assessment, security management and security awareness in complex context.
  • Up to 3 years working with an NGO or development organization preferred
  • Experience in incident reporting, incident mapping, compilation of security reports and assessments
  • Experience in training and coaching national staff in safety and security..
