Restoring Family Links Field Officer At The International Committee of the Red Cross – ICRC


Under the direct supervision of the Restoring Family Links (RFL) Delegate in Maiduguri, s/he implements RFL activities in a defined area of responsibility (AOR) in order to respond adequately to the needs of families searching for their missing loved ones.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of the RFL delegate, the RFL field officer implements RFL activities in his/her area of responsibility 
  • Contributes to the analysis of the security, socio-economic, cultural and political environment in the AoR
  • Identifies new areas of potential RFL need and conducts assessments to verify and quantify those needs
  • Manages the caseload for the AOR including identifying and prioritizing action, maintaining contact with volunteers, attributing workload, assessing quality of work done
  • Coaches, supervises and provides feedback to NRCS RFL volunteers as they collect and treat RFL cases (UAM/SC, TC, RCM etc.) in the area of responsibility
  • Checks and processes all documentation before transmitting to the delegation in a timely fashion
  • Helps to deliver capacity-building trainings for Nigerian Red Cross RFL volunteers 
  • Plans and conducts field trips in support of RFL operations and produces timely, detailed and accurate field reports thereafter 
  • Participates in internal and external meetings whenever called upon
  • Occasionally translates RFL documents from Kanuri/Hausa into English and vice versa as operational needs require
  • Maintains an updated filing system of the RFL caseload
  • Receives and responds to requests received from enquirers visiting or calling the RFL office
  • Assists in compiling, cross-checking and processing volunteer incentives
  • Uses the institutional database (Prot6) to register new cases, access report, prepare working tools and search for beneficiaries

Education and Experience Required

  • University Degree/Equivalent in relevant technical field
  • 2 years’ work experience in a similar field
  • Excellent command of written and spoken Kanuri, English and Hausa is required
  • Good computer skills: knowledge in Excel, Word, if possible PowerPoint
  • Good knowledge of Nigerian geography
  • Knowledge of any other ICRC working language will be an added advantage
