WatHab Technician (Hygiene Promotion Officer) (3 Months Maternity Cover)

Under the direct supervision of the WatHab Delegate, the Hygiene Promotion Officer ensures correct delivery and impact of the hygiene and health promotion activities, good participation of target communities and other local stakeholders in close collaboration with NRCS. He/She contributes to the maintenance of hygienic conditions in camp and/or non-camp settings through conducting assessments on personal and environmental hygiene, identifying key issues and planning hygiene promotion activities, supervising Hygiene Volunteers in hygiene activities, and training/leading a variety of hygiene promotion activities.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in the monitoring of all hygiene promotion and community mobilization activities to ensure target communities behaviour change and project ownership.
  • Follow and supervise the Hygiene Promoters in the field on a regular basis and organising, supervising and producing KAP (Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practice) surveys.
  • Collate data, analyse and report findings and develop an action plan to address key identified issues.
  • Mobilize, organize and supervise, through facilitators or other means, members of the communities to take ownership of maintaining best practices in personal, community and environmental hygiene.
  • Conduct participatory hygiene promotion sessions within communities, groups of persons with specific needs according to age, gender and diversity, community-based committees and other groups, such as duty bearers and stakeholders.
  • Manage and conduct home visits to asses, inform and motivate families to improve hygiene and living conditions when required.
  • Promote hygiene education through a variety of means, such as information sharing, dissemination and communication materials.
  • Provide support to the distribution of hygiene items and conduct monitoring and follow up to ensure proper usage of items and appropriateness.
  • Draw programs in line with globally recognised hygiene and sanitation action days.i.e Global handwashing, World Toilet days.
  • Maintain full quantitative and qualitative records and reports of activities, disaggregated by age and gender where appropriate.
  • Provide regular written and verbal reports to managers upon request.
  • Provide full support to WatHab Delegate in maintaining regular contact with local stakeholders including government authorities.
  • Provide progress reporting on program implementation.
  • Provide input to operational reports (assessments, Quarterly reports).
  • Provide constant communication of program status, issues or concerns with the WatHab delegate.
  • Provide WPA progress reports to the WatHab Delegate in a timely manner.
  • Provide field-trip reports, site inspection reports and Minutes of Meetings according to the existing format to the WatHab Delegate in a timely

manner.

Education and Experience Required

  • University Degree/Equivalent in Public Health
  • 3 years cognate INGO experience

  • Team Player.
  • Diplomatic and Persuasive approach.
  • Ability to come up with alternative suggestions (Thinking outside the box).
  • Very good computer skills. 
  • Very good analytical and synthesis skills. 
  • Awareness of the socio-political environment in the North East
