Concern for Women and Children Development Foundation (COWACDI) is a woman- led organization born out of passion for the wellbeing of Women and Children in Nigeria. It has special interest in mitigating the suffering of the vulnerable persons (mostly Women & Children) in times of crisis. Currently the organization has focused its attention on the North East of Nigeria with special emphasis in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states (the BAY states) due to the decade old crises. COWACDI intervenes through community-based approach in addressing Gender-Based Violence prevention and response programmes, child protection, peace-building programmes and empowerment of youth and women. COWACDI operates with full respect for humanitarian law and works with concrete policies and principles of international standard such as humanity, impartiality, neutrality and independence and accountability to affected population.

We are recruiting to fill the position below: 

Job Title: Protection and PSEA officer (Internal/External)
Location: Maiduguri
Employment Type: Full-time (4 months)

Reports To: Protection and PSEA Coordinator

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to the development of COWACDI’s Protection and PSEA work plan, programming, risk mitigation and management, planning, reporting, monitoring and evaluation and budgeting as assigned.
  • Actively participate in the Protection and PSEA activities in the work plan as well as other internal and interagency communication and coordination initiatives.
  • Ensure the mitigation of SEA risks are developed, embedded and strengthened within all COWACDI programming and HR practices.
  • In close coordination with Line Manager and at all possible opportunities including during program implementation, relevant trainings, staff and programme meetings, through newsletters, in email messages, etc.), continually share key messages on PSEA, including mandatory reporting requirements within the office and programming.
  • Prepare and develop status reports to identify locations and programmes with the highest SEA risk, check the appropriate mitigation and response strategies within COWADI programming and operations.
  • Assist with travel request, minutes of meetings, purchase requisition and other documents as required by the Line Manager.
  • Assist Line Manager in developing a training plans and coordinating the delivery of PSEA and Protection related trainings for staff and beneficiaries.
  • Provide inputs for Protection and PSEA programming, risk mitigation and management, planning, reporting, monitoring and evaluation and budgeting.
  • Provide relevant assistance to COWACDI teams to ensure the mitigation of SEA risks are developed, embedded and strengthened within all COWACDI programming.
  • Participate in the development of communication and awareness-raising strategies and tools to ensure appropriate PSEA messaging and knowledge on prohibited behaviours as well as how to report allegations of misconduct, including SEA within communities and amongst beneficiaries.
  • Participate and provide inputs for developing PSEA proposals and support the mainstreaming of PSEA within COWACDI programming; coordinate closely with partners, governments, donors, and communities on PSEA needs and responses, as assigned.
  • Support the development and provide inputs to reporting on PSEA and communication to highlight COWACDI’s PSEA work within programming.
  • Provide inputs for the development and mapping of victims within COWACDI programmes to refer victims for assistance and other support services identified.
  • Coordinate referrals for victim assistance in coordination with gender-based violence and support the strengthening of victim services within COWACDI programming;             Support with report writing programming.
  • Undertake duty travel as required.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Graduate of Law, International Relations, Psychology, Social Sciences, Development Studies and Planning or a related field from an accredited academic institution.
  • One (1) year of relevant professional experience working in humanitarian context.
  • Experience implementing projects in the fields of sexual exploitation and abuse, protection, general protection, gender-based violence, accountability to affected populations (AAP), gender mainstreaming.
  • Coordination experience with partners, including governments, NGOs, and communities;
  • Experience in organizing and facilitating PSEA trainings, in particular capacity-building, and communication materials to promote behaviour change.
  • Experience undertaking PSEA risk assessments, in coordination with communities, partners and other key stakeholders.
  • Good written and oral communication skills, effective in representation and liaison with external partners.

Language required:

  • Fluency in oral and written English is required. 
  • Working knowledge of other local languages.
