Background

Justice, Development and Peace Commission (JDPC) is a non-governmental organization which has been engaged in developmental works in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa States for the past 50 years. JDPC also focuses on Agriculture, WaSH, Nutrition, MHPSS and other emergency programming, reaching out to all persons on the basis of need, regardless of creed, ethnicity or nationality.

JDPC is inviting suitably qualified candidate for the above-mentioned position to work in Maiduguri.

Candidate must be prepared to start work as soon as possible.

Post Description:

The Nutrition Officer will closely work with his/her counterpart and the Senior Program Manager. He/she will coordinate and supervises CMs to conduct screening activities, referral of SAM Cases, conduct IYCF messaging activities and communicate behavioral change. The Nutrition Officer also will also oversee follow up for SAM and MAM cases. The Nutrition Officer will participate in the organization and monitoring of related activities aimed at improving access to food. He/she supervises a team of Nutrition CMs.

Responsibilities:  

  • Supervises house-to-house MUAC screening of children under the age of 6 – 59 months.
  • Referral of clients with malnutrition to treatment centers.
  • Mobilize community members especially caregivers for nutrition activities.
  • Carryout follow-up visits to households in which cases of MAM and SAM are identified
  • Assist in conducting surveys in the communities of Intervention
  • Assist in conducting focus-group discussions around nutrition 
  • Conduct key Behavioral change messaging to community members especially pregnant and lactating women
  • Act politely with community members and IDPs.
  • Be on time, flexible to perform duties as defined by the organization.
  • Perform all other activities related to organization’s businesses in line with humanitarian assistance to the targeted communities.
  • Promptly report any problems or challenges encountered during daily activities to the Program Manager. 
  • Serve as community focal point for JDPC, receiving feedback from community members and transmit it to supervisors.
  • Adhere to safety and security protocols always. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  1. Bachelor’s degree in food and Nutrition and Dietetics in related discipline (higher qualification is an added advantage).
  2. An equivalent of three years’ experience in nutrition or related field
  3. Ability to operate Microsoft Word, Excel, Project & database Management software
  4. Ability to write reports. 
  5. Ability to work in partnership with local communities and other NGOs as appropriate.
  6. Knowledge of Hausa and / or other relevant language.

  • Professional manner in dealing with community members and co-workers. 
  • Strong listening skills combined with excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills 
  • Possess good interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work to meet deadlines in multiple tasking environments  • Excellent organization, planning and analytical skills 
  • Good writing skills in English.
  • Ability to work in a challenging and demanding environment.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and coordinate with other JDPC staff.
