Smiling Hearts initiatives international is a humanitarian non-governmental, non profit organization founded in Nigeria, Borno state Maiduguri and has been in operation 2016 as Zumunchi Hearts Initiatives International before its official registration with CAC on 10th October 2018 as Smiling Hearts Initiatives International. Smiling Hearts Initiatives International work with the aim of saving and improving people lives, in Nigeria and the world at large, in response to Humanitarian needs and challenges, in the Northeast of Nigeria focusing in the sector of Education, Protection, WASH, CCCM, Livelihood, Health, Shelter, Psycho-social support, NFI, Food security/GFD in the area of operations.

Smiling Hearts Initiatives International has opened applications for the role of Nutrition Assistant. SHI is working to ensure children around the world get health care, food and shelter as well as learning and child protection services.

Responsibilities:

  • Carry out the day-to-day running of the OTP and TSFP sites, including admission, management and discharges, following the CMAM protocols and related documentation.
  • Implement Out Patient Therapeutic Programme and Targeted Supplementary Feeding Programme at health unit and community level.
  • Ensure monthly routine screening at the community level, ensuring appropriate referral of the cases of malnutrition are identified.
  • Register SAM cases and on a weekly basis provide RUTF, inform mothers/caretakers about the weight of their children and growth status, using the growth monitoring card.
  • Ensure that OTP register books are well-filled in, and the beneficiary cards are filled and with all information for the particular child, for easy follow-up.
  • Support and supervise the community health workers/volunteers for mobilisation activities and follow-up of the defaulter cases Provide MUAC training to the CNVs/CHW, and support them to carry out community screening on a regular basis
  • Facilitate the implementation of social behaviour change (SBC) and support to the Maternal Infant and Young Child Feeding Programme and hygiene promotion at nutrition/health post.
  • In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

Requirements:

  • Certificate in Nursing, Health Education or a trained community health worker certificate.
  • One year, minimum, of experience working in nutrition programmes within government or NGO setup.
  • Experience in the related field for IMC will be an added advantage.
  • Ability to cope and work under pressure in the field site.
  • Good oral and written English as well as local languages (Kanuri, Hausa, Fulani is an added Advantage).
  • High flexibility and ability to work without close supervision.
  • Ability to work for long hours especially in hard-to-reach locations within facility catchment areas.
  • Experience working with the local communities.
