POSITION SUMMARY

The Communications Assistant will oversee and deliver resources and processes in support of the media and communication component of WRA Nigeria programs. H/She will work with national and state level stakeholders to improve reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health (RMNCAH) and advance the rights and cause of women and girls across the country.

The incumbent will also develop and deliver digital strategies and campaigns on women development, GRO community mobilization, women campaign, advocacy training and Gender Justice. The post holder is required to be a strong team player and contribute to the country programs team work. The role requires capacity to conduct advocacy, media and digital campaign plans, strategies and tactics. It demands creativity and proficiency in utilizing information to identify the best options to support the WRAN country team in sound decision making.

The communications officer will also be responsible for effective advocacy activities with special focus on media (modern and traditional), community campaign mechanism, media campaigns and parleys.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Support WRA Nigeria’s communications programs, prepare media briefings and engagements and take responsibility for WRA Nigeria’s communication implementation strategy with different target audiences
  • Plan and implement WRA Nigeria’s communication strategy
  • Primarily manage and monitor WRA Nigeria social and online media communications platforms and liaise with the media- print, electronic and online.
  • Create and produce promotional content, project quarterly newsletters for distribution across partner’s network
  • Ensure adequate media coverage for all program activities, functions and press releases/press statements
  • Lead the database creation of all media organizations and their contacts
  • Write, edit and distribute various types of content, including material for a website, press releases, marketing material and other types of content that take the message to the public.
  • Maintain contact with key stakeholders for information and feed into WRAN media and advocacy work
  • Prepare and manage the organization’s communication budget

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Minimum of an HND/BSc in social science, communications, marketing or a related field

Experience

  • 2-3 years of experience in similar role is essential
  • Demonstrable grasp and understanding of health media especially for RMNCH Projects
  • Experienced in effective media relations across online and traditional media
  • Proven expertise facilitating collaborative work with Civil Society/ Media network partners

Skills

  • Ability to break down and communicate complex ideas to simpler focus
  • High interpersonal and diplomatic skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Familiarity with latest technologies and tactics that support digital influencing and offline media
  • Demonstrable sensitivity to cultural differences and women development issues
  • Commitment to WRA Nigeria’s safeguarding and Information technology management policy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, including the ability to convey complex concepts in a clear and concise way and to help stakeholders act on the information
  •  Expertise in preparing thorough, well-written, and concise documents
