Job Title:    Programmes Officer I

Reports to: Programmes Manager

POSITION SUMMARY

The Program officer I will primarily support the implementation of WRA Nigeria assigned projects and will work with both national and state level stakeholders to promote and advance the rights and cause of women and girls across the country. The Program Officer is responsible for project coordination, implementing project M&E plans, management of project data and oversight of community mobilization activities in collaboration with other state team members. S/he will have strong project management skills, proposal development and reporting writing skills, stakeholders’ management abilities and a strong interest in gender norms, women, child and adolescent approaches to development.

The Program officer may be responsible for supervising project support staff and collaborate closely with the Communication officer to implement project communication outcomes that meets all donor’s requirements and set standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Lead the development, implementation and monitoring of project work plan and budgets
  • Coordinate technical assistance for program implementation and assist technical staff in the design implementation, monitoring and assessment of activities.
  • Write quarterly reports, annual work plans, project monitoring/tracking, implementation plan and relevant reports as required.
  • Work closely with technical and program staff to ensure quality implementation of programs and monitor overall project level spending.
  • Assist in the development of new program approaches that are linked to related services
  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of contractual agreements with organizations and consultants;
  • Provide regular updates and reports to the Programme Manager, on progress, priorities and constraints – verbally and in writing as agreed.

Communication

  • Support the production of write-ups for publications on assessments, research and evidence gained through project implementation on Nutrition.
  • Oversee project coordination and partner collaboration to ensure timely communication, information sharing, and project implementation

Participate in communicating of the project’s vision, activities, and research results; develop/review presentations, website content, blogs, briefs, and reports

Advocacy & Alliance Building

  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key stakeholders and partners in the government, NGO sector, civil society and media
  • Represent WRAN at various meetings, forums and advocacy meetings as directed
  • Perform other work tasks, as required by the Programme Manager

OTHER FUNCTIONS

  • Oversee function of Program associates to organize External meetings and events (regular donor meetings, technical expert group meetings)

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Minimum of a BSc in Public health, Psychology or a related field. Masters is an added advantage

Experience

  • 2-3 years of experience implementing RMNCH and Women development projects
  • Program management and/or program coordination experience required
  • Proven expertise facilitating collaborative work with diverse partners engaged in complex projects; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with these partners and build strong professional relationships and networks

Skills

  • Experience in women development and quality of care programs
  • Familiarity with Nigeria’s health systems and reporting structure and demonstrated ability to collaborate with government level officials to strengthen program implementation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, including the ability to convey complex concepts in a clear and concise way and to help stakeholders act on the information
  • Ability to manage and coordinate diverse tasks and facilitate relationships among multiple parties
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner
  • Expertise preparing thorough, well-written, and concise documents 
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail
  • A deep commitment to global health and development issues

TRAVEL: local travels may be necessary up to 10% of the time
