State Team Lead At Achieving Health Nigeria Initiative (AHNi) Borno (x1) Yobe (x1)


Achieving Health Nigeria Initiative (AHNi) is an indigenous non-governmental organization that promotes socio-economic development by supporting a broad range of global health programs, education, research, and livelihoods initiatives in Nigeria. In anticipation of a potential award from USAID on the Accelerating Control of the HIV Epidemic in Nigeria (ACE) with focus on the BAY (Borno, Adamawa, Yobe) states, the following positions are open for consideration to all qualified candidates. AHNi currently has its headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria..

State Team Lead: will oversee the implementation of the program in the state offices, coordinate all terms of reference, reports (quarterly and annual) in line with approved budgets for the program management, work closely with the Senior Program Advisor in planning and budgeting of program activities. S/he will oversee and provide regular supportive supervision on performance and review of the process of project implementation in all program activities, provide support to the Senior Program Advisor on technical, administrative, and operational management of the program. Support in managing regular correspondence with Donor representatives on various stages of program implementation. Lead the development of work plans and budgets and communicate these to staff and partners. Oversee strategy implementation and delivery of results in the state with close working relationship with the Senior Program Advisor for strategic direction. Ensure compliance with Donor’s terms and conditions as well as AHNi rules and regulations.

Minimum Recruitment Standards

  • Master’s Degree in Public Health, Business Administration, Health or Behavioral Sciences, or other relevant fields required with 7-9 years’ experience
  • At least 7 years of mid-level experience implementing, and managing or evaluating complex health programs with an emphasis on health systems strengthening; health financing; and/or health sector policy and strategies 
  • Demonstrated technical depth and understanding of the health policy environment and governance in Nigeria or in a country of similar development context; experience in Nigeria, particularly in the Northern regions preferred
  • Demonstrated success managing large, complex donor programs; previous experience in managing a USAID contract strongly preferred
  • Experience building and maintaining partnerships with other development programs, local organizations, host country governments, and international agencies
  • Ability to use MS office packages. Use of MS project will be an added advantage
  • Knowledge and skills on conducting budget analysis and tracking (Burn rate, Pipeline analysis) is essential 
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills in English required, working knowledge of Hausa preferred.
