Job Title: SBCC Consultant

Location: Osun
Employment Type: Contract

Purpose of the Assignment

  • The purpose of this assignment is to develop training materials and conduct training on community mobilization, dialogues as well as organize a workshop on the development of key messages and production of IEC materials, and pre-test to promote acceptance.

Scope of Work
The following activities will be carried out by the consultant:

  • Explore current levels of knowledge, skills, and gaps in capacity of trainees.
  • Conduct participatory capacity strengthening on community mobilization activities that are built around National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP) and community engagement for EPI (Expanded Programme on Immunization).
  • Train community mobilizers on effective communication, building trust and on how to disseminate key messages on SP-PMC and Immunization.
  • Conduct a message & material development workshop.
  • Develop contextualized key messages on SP-PMC and immunization.
  • Develop SMS phone messages for key audiences (e.g. caregivers) informed by baseline data.
  • Design key messages for visual content e.g. posters.
  • Train Health Educators at State, LGA level and community mobilizers on how to conduct community dialogues and Interpersonal communication (IPC) at the community level.
  • Develop SBC content for advocacy (advocacy briefs), interpersonal communication and community dialogue guides.
  • Develop evaluation forms for the workshop. USA).

Specific Tasks for the Consultant

  • Draft training materials for State and LGA-level health educators and community mobilizers.
  • Develop key messages on SP-PMC and immunization for posters, SMS via mobile phone, advocacy briefs and IPC.
  • Develop flipchart and dialogue guide for community dialogues at the ward level.
  • Provide guidance on poster and flipchart design to a local artist / graphic designer on SP-PMC.
  • Test all content for understanding, acceptability and relevance with the target audiences.
  • Plan, facilitate and evaluate SBCC capacity development activities.
  • Submit overall report of assignment.

Qualifications and Experience
Essential:

  • Postgraduate Degree in Communication, Social Sciences, Health Promotion or related fields.
  • National or state consultancy expertise with at least 10 years’ experience in developing SBCC training guides and design, and pre-testing of SBCC materials.
  • At least 10 years’ experience of community engagement, and ideally the community dialogue approach.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in health systems research.
  • Experience working on similar assignments in the past.
  • Familiarity with the EPI and malaria programs.
  • Proven experience in writing reports for public health programs or projects in Nigeria or similar developing country context.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills in English, and Yoruba (desirable).
  • Excellent analytical, writing, synthesis, communication, facilitation skills and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft software for graphic design.

Desirable:

  • Extensive knowledge of the Nigerian public health sector.
  • A proven ability to work as part of a team and to be self-managing.
  • Experience in setting up and facilitating training with stakeholders.
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision.
  • Good writing and reporting skills.
  • Good presentation skills.
  • Proven academic experience, including pieces of research, publications, and written reports.
