  1. Purpose

Preventing and reducing the impact of HIV/SRH among AGYW in Benue State through addressing gender inequalities with Tearfund’s Transforming Masculinities approach, providing an enabling environment, appropriate services and empowerment. AGYW will be empowered with knowledge through the provision of age appropriate SRH services. Using a peer to peer approach their barriers to accessing these will be removed. Adolescent friendly services will be established with a focus on the attitude of the health care workers. AGYW will have the opportunity to develop sustainable livelihoods or be supported to return to education. Peer support and psychosocial support groups will be established to provide AGYW with the confidence that they require. The Transforming Masculinity approach will establish safe and supportive communities with reduced stigma and SGBV. Coupled with the peer support this will create an enabling environment in which AGYW can speak out against SGBV, where communities will be supportive in handling abuse cases and standing for gender justice.

The information from the baseline will be used to reinforce the Monitoring and Evaluation framework of the ‘We matter, our lives (health) count too!; Enabling Adolescent girls, young women and the Community’ and measure the deliverables of the Results Framework. In essence therefore, the aim of the baseline is to collect key data to inform implementation of the project.
