The International Committee of the Red Cross – ICRC- (www.icrc.org) is an independent humanitarian organisation, neutral and impartial. Mubi Sub Delegation is looking for a suitable candidate to fill the vacancy below.

Position: Psychologist 3 (Grade B3)

Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Head of Sub Delegation – Mubi, the Psychologist 3 implements Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) activities in the field for victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence. S/he ensures the technical quality of MHPSS services delivered in the field by relevant ICRC staff (e.g. psychologists, field officers) or local partners and builds the capacity of local MHPSS teams to provide effective support within his/her geographic or thematic area of responsibility. 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assesses, identifies, and prioritizes the MHPSS needs of target populations, taking into account vulnerable groups and community coping mechanisms and involvement.
  • Proposes evidence-based strategies in line with international standards, ICRC-wide guidelines and delegation objectives.
  • Ensures safe access to MHPSS services and a continuum of care for target populations. To this end, maps and links the ICRC’s resources with existing, functioning local systems and mechanisms.
  • Supports the identification and development of local and/or national MHPSS referral networks.
  • Plans the necessary resources to implement MHPSS programmes and contributes to recruiting local staff, training/coaching them appropriately.
  • Implements programmes in the field, in accordance with ICRC standard MHPSS frameworks.
  • Ensures regular monitoring and evaluation of MHPSS activities in the field.
  • Regularly evaluates MHPSS programme outcomes and assesses them in terms of actual needs and adapts activities accordingly, if applicable. Contributes to ICRC annual planning processes on MHPSS aspects.
  • Communicates and reports both internally and externally on the MHPSS context and target populations’ needs as well as on relevant local security and policy matters. Coordinates and oversees the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the MHPSS programs and related activities, as well as provide technical support to the MHPSS FOs, through supervision sessions, in order to ensure that the programs meet the needs of the beneficiaries.
  • Leads and guides the validation process of the MHPSS tools for proper cultural adaptation and translation into the local languages, as well as provide guidance to the counterparts for the proper understanding and correct use of those tools.  
  • Identifies, collaborates and supports the use the existing Health/MHPSS referral pathway, as well as contribute to improve such referral pathway in line with the beneficiary centered approach.

Education and Experience Required

  • University Degree in Psychology, MSc Degree in Clinical Psychology is preferable.  
  • Experience in fields of expertise relevant to the work of the ICRC (victims of violence, victims of sexual violence, victims of torture, detention, missing persons, migrants, war wounded, physically disabilities).
  • Project Management as well as people management experience is a must. 
  • Minimum of 5 years of overall professional experience with at least of 3 years of humanitarian field experience implementing MHPSS program. 
  • Applicants should have a Nigerian nationality or hold a working permit.  

Desired profile and Skills

  • Fluent command of English (both written and oral), as well as the main local language.
  • Experience with the National Societies or International Federation is an asset.
