Locations/Duty Station: Borno State (Dikwa, Kaga, Kala-Balge, Monguno & Ngala LGAs)

General context of the Job/Project
- The selected candidate will work as a member of the core team to ensure that gender and
protection issues of beneficiaries are identified and addressed, support in mainstreaming the
protection intervention at all stages of the implementation of the general food distribution,
livelihood and nutrition related programme for vulnerable children and pregnant and lactating
women, and Cash Based Transfers to vulnerable beneficiaries within the areas covered by
Salient Humanitarian Organization (SHO) in Borno State. The Project Coordinator will serve as
the protection officer’s technical mentor and supporter. - This includes the provision of appropriate and timely supervision of case management
services, identifying training needs of CFM assistants, and ensuring that protection issues and
concerns are effectively embedded in all WFP programming
Task and Responsibilities
- Manages individual protection cases, including maintaining strict protocols for confidentiality
and consent. - Supports the collection of information/data about vulnerability, protection needs and concerns
of the targeted population. - Assist the project coordinator and team in developing a strategy, making a plan, and ensuring
that protection is properly integrated and mainstreamed across all program activities and the
many phases of a distribution site. - Enlighten beneficiaries about accessible feedback channels, keep lines of communication open
with them to hear their views and complaints about protection-related issues, and make sure
the necessary remedial measures are performed and monitored. - Updates case files on individual developments, following international SOPs and ensuring
beneficiaries’ data are protected. - Ensure the recommendations are effectively implemented and disseminate PDMs’ findings
relating to protection. - Lead and oversee assessment teams while conducting theme surveys, determining needs, and
gathering data for research on protection. - Conducts follow-up monitoring visits to ensure that needs have been met in an appropriate
manner and beneficiary have the opportunity to provide feedback on the assistance received. - Takes part in the creation and updating of the service mapping for threats and abuses
(including GBV) that beneficiaries experience in the SHO operation zones. - Prepares and timely submit activity plans and reports to hierarchy.
- Follow up with humanitarian actors regarding requests and invites for community sessions
with the aid of the project coordinator. - Provides constant feedback to supervisor on progress, lesson learnt, achievements and gaps,
issues and problems. - Produce gender and protection updates that will be included in field visit reports.
- Organize and prepare regular protection analysis reports.
- Contribute in biweekly/monthly reports, donor reports and proposals.
- Prepare weekly and monthly plans and facilitation of community awareness sessions on basic
and specialist protection services using approaches that promote gender equality. - Support and coordinate with M&E Officers and for surveys, post-distribution other monitoring
activities. - Liaises with relevant public authorities and service providers in order to foster effective
collaboration and encourage national interest and ownership in protection of IDPs, refugees
and other persons of concern. - Conduct duties in accordance with SHO programme and protection Standard Operating
Procedures (SOPs); - Any other duties as may be assigned by the Protection Project Manager;
Essential knowledge and skills:
- University degree in a relevant discipline (law, political science, social science, psychology or
any other relevant education profile), or comparable addition to experience. - Prior expertise in offering counseling services that are child- and gender-sensitive as part of a
humanitarian response. - Understanding local dialects English, Kanuri, Shuwa and Hausa,
Preferred experience:
- Previous experience with GFD, BSFP and Cash Programming for Protection.
- Experience in working in Borno State
- evidence of prior work with communities in humanitarian or development contexts for a
minimum of two years. - The ability and desire to frequently go to the operating fields of SHO.
- Very good interpersonal skills, particularly in networking, working with communities, local civil
society and local authorities. - Previous experience in using and adapting community-led approaches.
- Effective grasp and application of the SHO standards and ethics for protection work, conflict
sensitivity principles, and do no harm. - Good understanding of protection concerns, including GBV issues in displacement, human
rights, and international humanitarian law. - Proven analytical skills.
- The ability to work under pressure
- Excellent computer knowledge and skills of using Microsoft word, power point and excel.
