Learning through Skills Acquisition Initiative (LETSAI) is a youth-led, women-focused non-profit organization established in June 2015. LETSAI particularly targets women, youths and children, the most vulnerable members of the society; it addresses protection issues through sustainable livelihood, Gender-Based Violence (GBV), psychosocial support through women groups and counseling sessions, and women empowerment interventions. The organization works with the relevant stakeholders towards peace building, sensitize women on GBV, management of survivors of violence by building and developing the skills of women and young girls. Hygiene promotion as a component where best practices of hygiene are being enhanced through house to house sensitization. The organizational values include timeliness, good attitude, integrity, excellence and professionalism while mainstreaming gender in all her interventions.

Job Summary:

The position involves leadership and coordination of various community-based initiatives aimed at promoting inclusivity and rights of persons with disabilities (PWDs) and vulnerable groups, particularly focusing on gender-based violence (GBV) and psychosocial support (PSS). The role encompasses advocacy, capacity building, community engagement, and project management.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:

  • Lead and coordinate Community entry with all stakeholders (advocacy)
  • Lead community mapping to identify community resources and existing structures including Community Development Committee (CDC) and OPDs for collaboration
  • Lead and coordinate the training on community based inclusive Development (CBID) for OPDs and community stakeholders.
  • Ensure community engagement meetings among identified OPDs, youth, women or men’s groups to improve disability inclusion in the community is carried out biannually
  • Work with JONAPWD, OPDs and other networks on advocacy for state Disability ACT/ implementation for persons with disabilities.
  • Lead and coordinate the production of Information Education and Communication (IEC) materials for community awareness raising
  • Lead and coordinate quarterly community outreaches for awareness and sensitization on Disability rights and other related issues
  • Lead and coordinate the Accessibility audit in selected health facilities for improved service delivery and construct ramps, Handrails and other recommended physical infrastructure for access improvement for persons with disability
  • Lead the Advocacy/Support to disability Commission/DPOs
  • Lead in the Formation and Training of Village Economic and Social Association in the target communities
  • Lead and coordinate the training of target groups on IGA and business skills
  • Lead in the enrolment of target groups into identified skills acquisition canter’s and Provide the start-up grants for business target groups and trainee from skill acquisition scheme.
  • Coordinate the activity of Strengthen/establish community-based mechanisms to provide local psychosocial and GBV Case management assistance
  • Distribution of dignity kit to support Women and Girls with disabilities in menstrual Hygiene management
  • Lead and ensure that persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups in the informal sector are enlisted on the State Health Insurance Scheme
  • Ensure smooth Procurement process is followed in the life cycle of the project implementation
  • Budget management; Project officer to prepare costed work plan, forecast and activity profile to ensure that activities are implemented within the approved budget
  • Prepare, compile and document project related reports that are timely and of high quality based on the key project indicators and reporting formats as required by the donor.
  • Prepare, compile and document success stories and best practices
  • Lead and ensure the trainings of Community Volunteers on PSS and GBV case management support
  • Provide technical support to LETSAI and advise on gender and protection mainstreaming and best practices as well as program development.
  • Lead where necessary community meetings to identify gender-related priorities and protection concerns.
  • Provide the day-to-day Management of all GBV cases and including the identification, documentation, development of case plans, and follow-up.
  • Advocate for more/better GBV, through Communication, Monitoring, and strategies aimed at achieving results
  • Ensure Do No Harm analyses are carried out and the humanitarian principles are adhered to.
  • Attend GBV and all other sector coordination meetings
  • Any other duty as may be assigned by the Programme Manager or the Executive Director.

Required Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications

Essential

  • . University Degree in Disability Studies, Rehabilitation Science, Community Studies, Social work, Psychology, Sociology, Development or other related Social Sciences field is required;
  • A Master’s Degree/Relevant certifications will be an added advantage;
  • Minimum of three (3) years specific professional experience working in the area of disability inclusion and GBV experience in CBID programming is an advantage;
  • Strong knowledge on safeguarding of children and adults-at-risk;
  • Excellent writing skills and an ability to communicate clearly and respectfully  
  • Fluency in oral and written communication skills; particularly in English language is a must. Understanding of Hausa is added advantage.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft office and other relevant project software’s.
