Job Title: Nutrition Officer
Location: Katsina, Sokoto and Zamfara 

Reports to: Program Manager and State Coordinator


Job Summary

The Nutrition Officer will make nutritional activities mainstream with regards to the different beneficiaries in the food program. S(he) will monitor and support supervision, provide guidance and trainings to beneficiaries and stakeholders on Nutrition activities

Specific Responsibilities

  • Assist the Project Manager to manage, train and develop the Nutrition team on nutrition screening and distribution
  • Schedule the daily activities for Nutrition Community Mobilizers regarding screening, referral and follow up of SAM and MAM child under 2 years old.
  • Ensure that Nutrition Data are reliable and correct
  • Implement Infant Young Child Feeding messaging and care group mother model in the LGAs
  • Monitor and report any challenges and/or gaps identified to inform adjustments to plans and implementation schedules.
  • Assist partners in their efforts to reflect on project experiences.
  • Support accountability through coordinating project evaluation activities and assisting partners in their efforts to collect and analyze project data per specified mechanisms and tools. Collaborate with local partner(s) to prepare reports per established reporting schedule.
  • Collect information on staff capacity needs and technical assistance needs of partner organizations and monitor capacity building and technical support activities to ensure effective impact.
  • Complete project documentation for assigned activities.
  • Assist with identifying information for case studies and reports on promising practices.
  • Any other task assigned by supervisor
  • May represent FINDEF in humanitarian coordination meetings, taskforces, clusters and technical working groups that are related to nutrition in emergency and recovery/resilience context.
  • The Nutrition Officer will need to be able to fit easily into a complex and highly operative team of various cultural backgrounds
  • You will also perform other related tasks as required and responsible for reporting and communication of progress and achievement of the specific assigned task.

Skills Required

  • Ability and willingness to frequently travel to villages and stay at the field.
  • Willingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult and frustrating working conditions like long distance walking to screening sites.
  • Ability to work in an environment where there are physical discomforts associated with change in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust or dirt.
  • Professional, motivated, open, creative, mature, responsible, flexible and, culturally sensitive.
  • Excellent team, budget and project management and representation competencies.
  • Proficient in statistical and other software (Microsoft Office – Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Willing and able to be based and travel regularly within remote areas, where services are limited.
  • Previous NGO experience managing mobilization in different interventions (i.e., GFD, Nutrition,)

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Nutrition, Public Health or related field,
  • Degree in any field of management or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 3 years work experience in humanitarian contexts (conflict/insecure contexts)
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience general food distribution program is strongly recommended.
  • Fluency in English and Hausa/Fulani
