General description of the position:
The nurse is responsible for coordinating and direct provision of integrated health services according to standard protocols for the project’s activities at Rann, Kala Balge LGA, Borno state. The nurse closely cooperates with the nurses and other community health staff to ensure quality and accountability of deliverables, and respect for deadlines, under the supervision of the Health Team Lead.
Responsibilities & Tasks:
Clinical Responsibilities
- Perform patient assessment using appropriate, problem-focused, and age-specific assessment techniques. Analyze the assessment data, derive nursing interventions, set priorities according to patient needs, formulate a plan of care, implement, and evaluate the outcome.
- Provide basic life support when needed. Document all relevant data in the electronic medical record according Administer medications, monitor desirable and undesirable effects, and intervene appropriately.
- Clinical management of pregnant and lactating women including during childbirth.
- Provide emotional support and measures to alleviate fear and anxiety.
- Participate in community health activities to promote, maintain, and restore health and prevent diseases.
- Able to recognize their limit and refer patients to appropriate specialist care when necessary.
- Prescribe and administer medications.
- Support mothers and their families in the overall care of their newborn babies in communities.
- Any other related duties as directed by the Team Lead or the Project Manager.
Community Responsibilities
- Support maternal and newborn care in communities.
- Provide counseling for ANC, PNC, and IYCF beneficiaries.
- Facilitate timely referrals from CHEWs to medical facilities.
- Promote health education and hygiene practices.
- Participate in data collection and assist the health team lead.
- Participate in community health activities to promote, maintain, and restore health and prevent diseases.
- Supervise CHEWs and community volunteers.
- Support mothers and families in the care of newborns in communities.
- Perform any other related duties as directed by the Team Lead or Project Manager.
Team Management
- Supervise and manage the reproductive health team with support from the team lead.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of available tools.
- Enforce safety procedures and protocols.
- Orient and brief new employees or volunteers under their supervision.
Reporting, Communication & Coordination
- Prepare activity reports under the supervision of the team lead.
- Attend meetings, seminars, and workshops relevant to project activities and objectives.
- Provide updates to the team lead on activities, challenges, community relations, and beneficiary engagement.
- Engage with local populations and authorities to assess needs, complaints, and events impacting Tdh’s community activities.
- Report concerns related to activities or security issues.
- Adhere to Tdh Security Regulations.
Job requirements
Experience/competences:
- Registered Nurse (RN) with a strong clinical background.
- Minimum of two years of progressively responsible professional experience in the humanitarian or related field.
- Proficiency in initiating emergency medical interventions, including triaging and emergency care.
- Experience in maintaining drug and fluid therapy per agreed Patient Group Directions.
- Understanding of core professional concepts and principles, including duty of candor and duty of care.
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken), Hausa (essential), and Kanuri (desired).

- Effective oral communication, writing, and reporting skills in English.
