Grow Strong foundation (GSF) Borno state Office is one of the leading NGO implementing the humanitarian response to IDPs in collaboration with united nation agencies and other international organisation. Salary Scale: N150, 000 to N210, 000 Gross

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Mine action, in the form of mapping and surveying, risk education and land clearance, needs in Borno are immense. GSF is, currently, the only Mine Action NNGO registered in Borno and hence is uniquely positioned to influence, and benefit from, this process. The Risk Education Field Officer has the responsibility for the planning, coordinating, implementation of and reporting on the Risk Education field activities within a team as directed by the Child Protection Manager. The position is based in Pulka, MMC & Jere.

As the Mine Risk Education Officer, the Employee will be a member of the GSF Technical Support and Capacity Building Program Team. The Employee’s responsibilities are specified below.

DUTIES AND RESPONSILITIES.

The Employee’s specific responsibilities are established through the Employee’s job description, and through periodic and annual reviews of the Employee’s scope of work. Specific responsibilities include: 

  • Assist in planning and design of Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) and Victim Assistance (VA) activities.
  • Assist in liaising with concerned partners and authorities (including military and security officials) for coordination and monitoring.
  • Plan and conduct interviews with relevant stakeholders.
  • Participate in the organization and provision of Training of Trainers on EORE and on Non-Technical Survey (NTS) for national authorities, teachers, community volunteers, humanitarian workers, and representatives of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).
  • Assist in the accreditation of trained actors. 
  • Participate in the mapping of existing EORE capacity, activities, and materials, identifying gaps and opportunities.
  • Assist in quality control on EORE Curriculum and Information Education and Communication (IEC) related materials in cooperation with contractors and partners.
  • Liaise and organize meetings in affected communities with landowners, land users, affected communities, and other stakeholders.
  • Produce weekly, sitreps, monthly and quarterly reports and provide on-the-job training to other staff as required. 
  • Liaise and organize meetings with national and local authorities, including military and security officials.
  • Assist the coordination with UNICEF Implementing Partners (IPs) and participate in meetings of the Protection sector and Mine Action Sub-Working Group (MA SWG).  As required, participate in Health, MHPSS, and Early Recovery & Livelihoods coordination meetings.
  • Receive updates from implementing partners and record information to assist UNICEF Information Management Unit to maintain records of data and progress of work, and produce reports when required.
  • Train UNICEF Implementing Partners in using Information Management System for Mine Action (IMSMA) accident/victim/assistance reports to identify victims’ needs and to monitor assistance provided by Humanitarian Mine Action (orientation, referral).
  • Participate in Monitoring and Evaluation and Quality Assurance of risk education activities and victim assistance conducted by implementing partners, including field visits to targeted areas.
