 The International Committee of the Red Cross – ICRC- (www.icrc.org) is an independent humanitarian organisation, neutral and impartial. Yola Sub Delegation is looking for a suitable candidate to fill the vacancy below

Under the supervision and with the support of the Mental Health Delegate, the Field Officer is responsible for the implementation the MHPSS Victims of Violence (including SV) and Helping the Helpers programme in his/her area of responsibility, according to the MHPSS project document. This includes planning, implementing and monitoring all MHPSS activities within the frame/orientation of the Delegation. 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the NRCS in a collaborative manner to address the mental health and psychosocial needs of the community, designing and implementing therapeutic and psychoeducational individual sessions, groups and sensitization activities as appropriate, with the support of the MHPSS Delegate.
  • Maintain regular contact with key community actors and/or health staff who will benefit from mental health awareness, sensitisation and /or basic psychological and psychosocial support trainings, with the support of the MHPSS delegate.
  • Provide and/or facilitate supportive and constructive coaching and supervision to NRCS and community psychosocial support volunteers to aid in their skills development. 
  • Performs assessments of stakeholders, existing resources and beneficiaries as needed, in collaboration with NRCS.
  • Proposes and discusses adequate referrals to other services and ICRC metiers with MHPSS delegate.
  • Proactively offers relevant inputs to the Delegate for the design or modification of MHPSS strategy.
  • Contributes to the internal communication of the ICRC and to the institutional memory by means of regular reporting documents, such as minutes of meetings, analytic/synthetic papers.
  • Registers and treats information (general and specific) accurately and with confidentially
  • Participates actively in meetings.
  • Maintain client files in accordance with international standards. Ensure all client information is kept confidential and clinical records and are kept securely and written in a respectful manner.

Education and Experience Required

  • University degree in Psychology. 
  • Post graduate degree in Clinical Psychology, Psychiatric Nurse or similar is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in clinical and/or community mental health and psychosocial programs.
  • Experience working with the psychological effects of war, IDP/ Refugee mental health highly desirable.

Desired profile and Skills

  • Good capacity to work both within a team and autonomously  
  • Good oral and written English skills.  
  • Fluency in local languages i.e. Hausa, Kanuri, Bura 
  • Group facilitation skills, training and supervision experience. Able to use Microsoft office efficiently.
