About The MENTOR Initiative

The MENTOR Initiative is a UK-registered charitable, not-for-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to alleviating human suffering from tropical diseases worldwide. Supported by BHA-PUI, USDA, and UNF, MENTOR is currently working in Nigeria to address malaria in high-risk areas of Borno State. We collaborate closely with the Ministry of Health (MoH) in Nigeria to build technical capacity and improve planning for malaria and other vector-borne diseases (VBDs).

Job Context

The MENTOR Initiative is implementing an Emergency Malaria Control Program in Borno State, working with the Borno State Ministry of Health to establish and maintain lifesaving health services for vulnerable communities, including the control of vector-borne diseases.

The MENTOR Initiative
Position: M&E and Data Entry Officer
Location: Maiduguri, Nigeria (with field visits to other locations)
Duration: 6 Months
Start Date: As soon as possible
Reports to: Senior Project Officer

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Collection & Management: Gather and verify all program data daily from prevention and medical teams, ensuring accurate computerization and organized storage (both hard and soft copies).
  • Training & Surveys: Train teams on sampling and surveys as needed; organize baseline and end-line surveys in designated areas.
  • Data Quality & Monitoring: Collaborate with program staff to ensure data quality, accuracy, and timeliness; monitor IEC/BCC campaign activities using MENTOR M&E tools.
  • Database Maintenance: Oversee data entry, file organization, data protection, and database procedure design.
  • Field Visits: Conduct field visits for data verification, supervision, and M&E checklist monitoring.
  • Coordination & Reporting: Share data at least twice weekly or as needed with the Program Coordinator and Country Director; assist with data preparation for internal and external reporting.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Minimum HND in Computer Science, Public Health, Epidemiology, or equivalent.
  • Experience: At least 2 years of experience in data collection and M&E framework development.
  • Skills: Organizational, communication, and management skills; ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Languages: Fluency in English and Kanuri required; knowledge of Hausa is an advantage.
  • Preferred Experience: Familiarity with INGO project environments and standard procedures.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Project Support: Assist Medical and Prevention Officers in daily project implementation; provide logistical and administrative support.
  • Field Representation: Act as MENTOR’s focal point for external representation to authorities and partners.
  • Ethics & Conduct: Adhere to MENTOR’s Code of Conduct, Ethics, Integrity, and Safeguarding policies.

Note: As the MENTOR Initiative operates in a dynamic humanitarian aid environment, additional tasks may be requested to support program goals. Weekend work may occasionally be required as part of a 40-hour work week, per MENTOR’s standard contract.
