Import-Export Officer At The International Committee of the Red Cross

 The International Committee of the Red Cross – ICRC- (www.icrc.org) is an independent humanitarian organisation, neutral and impartial. Abuja Delegation is looking for a suitable candidate to fill the vacancy below

Under the direct supervision of the Import-Export Manager, the Import-Export Officer is responsible for ensuring that all imported, exported and in-transit goods are moved according to sound practices.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Obtains exemptions from national or regional authorities for goods that the ICRC imports. 
  • Receives and expedites freight out of the country or region of assignment in collaboration with external commercial partners. 
  • Is responsible for following up on, filing and archiving import-export documents. 
  • Ensures that records on bond data are available and up-to-date. 
  • Verifies invoices (from customs, freight-forwarders, etc.) and submits them to supervisors and/or department staff. 
  • Reports problems and irregularities in import-export activities; reports security issues.
  • Works with logisticians to handle claims. 
  • Takes part in selecting external logistics providers (freight forwarders and carriers).
  • Ensures that the latest customs regulations are communicated and applied
  • On the basis of the import documents and specification of the goods, preparing official ICRC Proforma invoice. •              Compiles of all relevant export custom documentation for custom clearance procedure •         Draft claims related to ImpEx operations and submits to the ImpEx Manager.
  • Reports on the occurred problems without any delay to the ImpEx Manager.
  • Establishes weekly progress reports on status of shipments.
  • Updates JDE, Dimpex, Profile and other databases.
  • In absence of the ImpEx Manager, attend to the weekly meeting(s) in order to report ImpEx activity and issues and, advise eventual inquiries for the next shipment to plan.
  • Arranges in coordination with the Vehicle Fleet Manager of the annual vehicle checkup and temporary importation procedures.
  • Submits necessary correspondence and documentation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the donation of vehicles.

Education and Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in import/export. A Master’s degree is an added value
  • Three years of experience working in a clearing and forwarding company/organization.
  • Proven knowledge of customs and import-export procedures.
  • Certification in clearing and forwarding is an asset
  • Valid IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations certification is an asset

Desired profile and Skills

  • Excellent command (spoken and written) of English
  • Computer skills (especially in logistics software – JDE/SAP)

SALARY RANGE (Gross) – 397,700 – 437,500 How to Apply
