Programme:
The Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP) is co-funded by the European Union and the German Government – BMZ, Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development – and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing (FMPWH) supports inter alia electrification planning in Nigeria.
During its first phase (2013-2017), NESP, through its unit on rural electrification, supported the FMPWH and five partner states (Cross River, Niger, Plateau, Ogun and Sokoto) with electrification planning (incl. geo-data gathering, management and least-cost modelling). During its second phase (2018-2020), NESP has established an electrification planning unit that will focus on data gathering and management to provide a stronger basis for electrification modelling. Data gathering will be done, mainly, via field surveys (i.e. power network tracking, on-site surveys), while the results will be presented on a geospatial web portal.
Responsibilities & tasks:
A. Responsibilities
As a Junior Advisor, you will work within the Unit on Sustainable Energy Access. Your job will be to support the Head in the general management of the Unit. You will also be responsible for supporting each of the Advisors in the coordination of their specific activities
B. Tasks
Below is a non-exhaustive list of the areas on which you will assist:
- Unit Management
a. Programme/activity planning (incl. ToRs for consultants).
b. Budgeting.
c. Monitoring (incl. reporting or approval of consulting invoices).
d. Coordination with the other NESP Units, local partners, donors.
e. Administration - Activity Coordination
a. Establishment of collaborations with partners (incl. selection of private partners).
b. Implementation of collaborations with partners.
i. Preparation of documents (e.g. regulation, legal templates, financial models, business plans, studies, reports).
ii. Organisation of field missions (for NESP local partners, staff and/or consultants).
iii. Organisation of events (e.g. workshops, exhibitions…).
iv. Administration (e.g. preparation of travel claims for partners).
C. Other duties/additional tasks
The Advisor:
- is familiar with all components of the Programme, concepts and status of implementation and knows the corresponding experts and staff;
- represents the interest of the GIZ and the Programme and always acts on its behalf.
- Carries out important tasks for the Programme, even if these are not explicitly cited in the job description; performs other duties and tasks at the request of the Management Required qualifications, competences and experience:

Professional Experience
A minimum of 1 year experience in the energy sector. Private sector experience and experience in the off-grid renewable energy sector is an asset.
Experience on legal and regulatory instruments for the Nigerian Power Sector is an asset.
4. Experience working or consulting for donors is an asset
F. Other knowledge, additional competences.
Fluent written and oral knowledge of English. Knowledge of local languages would be an asset.
2. Advanced knowledge on MS Office.
3. Ability and willingness to travel regularly to any region in Nigeria (including rural areas)
