Job Title: GFD Officer
Location: Borno, Yobe and Zamfara 

Reports to: Program Manager


Job Summary

The GFD Officer will support the implementation of food and nutrition assistance to displaced population and vulnerable people. The GFD Officer will be responsible for directly overseeing the reception of food commodities from our partner and the implementation of food distributions.  This will include supervising registration, crowd control and line monitor staff, taking full accountability for receiving and distributing commodity, ensuring each household receives appropriate entitlement (giving priority to vulnerable people groups), and ensuring that the distribution is implemented according to the standards and best practice.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Ensure program activities are implemented according to approved guidelines.
  • Work closely with program manager to achieve program objectives and targets.
  • Oversee reception of food commodity from trucks, accounting and recording any differences between the number of units received per commodity against dispatched waybill.
  • Manage monthly reporting of beneficiary feedback mechanisms, post-distribution discussions and complaints received on-site.
  • Perform monthly inventory of distribution materials to ensure all materials are available and ready to use before the monthly cycle.
  • Coordinate with community leaders to hire manual labor for off-loading trucks and/or preparing rations at distribution site.
  • Assist store keeper in training hired laborers on proper unloading of commodity at the distribution site.
  • Organize and assist in conducting post-distribution discussions with beneficiaries and community leaders after each distribution cycle
  • Support the M&E and SCOPE Officers in overseeing the beneficiary’s registration database, ensuring that each registration record is comprehensive through the development of cross-checking mechanisms.
  • Assist Program Manager in coordinating the reception of commodity and monthly physical inventory.
  • Oversee the reception of food commodity, accounting for the number of units received against the dispatch waybill.
  • Ensure the commodities are neatly stored in the warehouse.
  • Ensure the commodity tracking paperwork is being completed by the GFD Assistants, including stack cards, warehouse ledgers, etc.
  • Support Store keeper in post-distribution physical inventories.
  • Complete other activities as directed by the Program Manager.

  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable, taking on additional responsibilities as needed.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and its applications such as Outlook, Word, and Excel including formulas/formatting.
  • Must have analytical and report writing skills.
  • High level of integrity and stewardship.
  • Above average mathematics skills.
  • Fluency in English and Hausa/Fulani
  • Practical experience managing staff and programs in insecure locations.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Minimum of Higher National Diploma required; degree from university preferred.
  • One or two years of work experience in food assistance, nutrition or livelihood programs.
  • Previous experience with cash-based transfer and general food distribution program is strongly recommended.
