Currently 466 national and 63 international employees, 37 regional staff, 4 integrated specialists and 3 development workers are working in the country (January 2025). The project: Strengthening capacities for peace building and conflict resolution in North-Central Nigeria (PEACECORE)The transitional development assistance (TDA) project “Strengthening capacities for peacebuilding and conflict resolution in North-Central Nigeria” financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) aims to strengthen conditions for conflict transformation in Plateau State in Central Nigeria. Conflicts have escalated in recent years, and the displacement and insecurity as a result cause negative impact on agricultural and livestock farming, as well as livelihoods in general. Value chains are disrupted, and the rural population’s self – sufficiency capacities are diminished. In support to conflict transformation and prevention, the project works to promote peaceful coexistence, inclusive peacebuilding, sustainable livelihoods, and food security. The project has a duration of 3 years (until 10/2026) and pursues a participatory and inclusive approach.
Responsibilities & tasks:
A. Responsibilities
The Gardener is responsible for:
- Maintenance of office lawn, plants and the flowers, outside
and inside the offices - Fumigation of the office compound
- Clean office environment
B. Tasks

- maintains the office lawns and planters by soil improvement,
renewing and watering - maintains the potted plants and flowers in the offices
- trims the trees, hedges and the grass
- removes all garden debris and keep the environment
presentable - keeps the foliage away from the buildings
- removes weeds and sweeps the compound, ensuring that
leaves that drop are cleared - fumigates the compound at least twice a year
- uses natural methods for plant protection and pest control,
avoiding application of chemicals and pesticides - ensures that all tools, garden equipment and machinery are
correctly maintained and serviced and that they are kept in
good and safe working order - is aware and practices of Health and Safety guidelines,
ensures a safe working environment for everyone working in
or using the different green areas
- General Tasks
The Gardener
- supports the waste disposal service in evacuating all solid
waste within the office - checks regularly the water outlets and reports any
malfunction promptly - keeps the outside of the offices clean
- provides guidance to the Senior Technical Advisor on
matters related to the garden and environment - supports the loading and offloading of items delivered into
the office - advises the Senior Technical Advisor on the need to procure
plants and garden necessities and provides a detailed written
quotation and report. - reports any kind of problem or damage detected within the
premises and the at the outside fences to the Office staff - supports the hospitality staff with internal cleaning and covers
for such staff for leave days

C. Required qualifications, competences, and
experience.
Qualifications
- Minimum of secondary school education
Professional experience - At least 1-3 years’ work experience in a comparable position
with references.
Other knowledge, additional competences - In-depth knowledge of plants and gardening techniques
- Friendly personality with excellent interpersonal skills
- Solid understanding of health and safety rules
- Competent, physically fit and able to do hard manual labour
- Ability to use a wide range of horticultural machinery and
powered hand tools - Possessing a good knowledge of botany and horticulture
- Comfortable with working in all weathers and seasons
- Ability to work well as part of a team or individually
