Medecins du Monde (MdM) is an international humanitarian organization whose mission is to provide medical care for the most vulnerable populations, the world over, including France. It seeks to stimulate voluntary commitment from doctors, other health care providers, and from those whose expertise in other fields is needed for its activities, to enlist all competent support required for the achievement of its projects, and to seek at all times to encourage close working relationships with populations in its care. MdM operating in Nigeria, Borno state since October 2016.

General Overview

  • Over the years, Médecins du Monde, a campaigning medical organization committed to international solidarity, has been caring for the most vulnerable populations at home and abroad. It has continued to highlight obstacles that exist in accessing health care and has secured sustainable improvements in health-for-all policies.
  • Those working for this independent organization do not solely dispense care and treatment but condemn violations of human dignity and rights and fight to improve matters for populations living in precarious situations.
  • MdM currently works in many countries across all continents where it focuses on 4 priority areas: caring for the health of migrants and displaced persons, promoting sexual and reproductive health, combating HIV, and reducing the harm and risks associated with drug use, crises, and conflicts.
  • Starting 2016 and up till now Medecins du Monde has been intervening in Nigeria (Maiduguri and Damboa). MdM’s provides a comprehensive PHC health package that includes GBV services. The PHC’s are situated in IDP camps but the services are accessible to both IDP and host communities.

Objective

  • The GBV specific human rights training was initiated in 2020 with the aim of creating an enabling environment for our beneficiaries to seek legal support through the available legal mechanisms/systems available in Borno.
  • The training aims at building the capacity of community mobilization staff in the dissemination of information about legal support/services available to our beneficiaries.

The general objectives of the GBV Specific Human Rights facilitation are:

  • Building capacity of WiNN volunteers on human rights-related issues and concepts to improve their capacity on community engagement.
  • Strengthen the awareness and knowledge of participants on the survivor’s rights and GBV specific national legislation
  • Improve participant’s skills on mobilization, messaging, and methodology of access to justice service.

Deliverables:

  • Conduct 2 training courses for a day each, targeting MdM/Community mobilizers on the prioritized modules (August and September 2021)
  • Conduct role plays and case simulation for all the prioritized modules
  • Provide feedback and practical solutions to questions about the application of the skills thought in the modules
  • Apply and analyze the standard Pre-Posttest evaluation.
  • Provide 1 summary of the training evaluation report

Education / Experience

  • Candidates should possess a Master’s Degree / PhD qualification with a minimum of 3 years work experience.
  • A certified Lawyer  /Legal trainer, with strong technical skills in Human rights, legal support for GBV survivors, and Borno/Nigeria legal systems.
  • Experience on the GBV in emergency legal approaches, prevention, and legal models of GBV legal support.
  • Strong training and supervision skills.
  • Experience in the provision of similar tasks in a humanitarian emergency context
  • Excellent understanding of GBV interventions in line with the IASC guidelines in emergency settings
  • Knowledge of cultural perception and approaches to GBV issues in North-East Nigeria.
