Job Title: Community Nutrition Volunteer
Contract Duration: 11 months
Locations: Adamawa (Madagali LGA) and Yobe (Jakusko and Bursari LGA’s)

Role Purpose

As an independent development and humanitarian organization, we work alongside children, young people, our supporters and partners to tackle the root causes of the challenges facing girls and all vulnerable children. We support children’s rights from birth until they reach adulthood and enable children to prepare for and respond to crises and adversity. We drive changes in practice and policy at local, national and global levels using our reach, experience and knowledge. For over 80 years we have been building powerful partnerships for children, and we are active in over 75 countries.
Dimensions of the Role
The position holder is community nutrition volunteer responsible for community engagement at the LGA level. The position holder is responsible for screening of children under 5 and also referral to nutrition implementation sites. The position holder is responsible for follow up of referrals and discharges from the stabilization center.

Key Responsibilities
Community Nutrition Volunteer (CNV) will be responsible for Nutrition activities at the community level.
These include;

  1. Screening of U5s (0-59 Months) for Malnutrition and referral to CMAM treatment centers
  2. Promoting uptake of Nutrition services at community level (Minimum package of Essential Nutrition services)
  3. Community level Maternal Infant and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) counseling and support, Including Mother Support Group (MSG) formation & facilitation
  4. Beneficiary follow-up and Defaulter tracing
  5. Strengthening of Community feedback systems
  6. Social Mobilization During outreach and health campaigns eg MNCHW
  7. Maintain track of population movements in/out of their settlements and report to health facility.
  8. Participate at CMAM Sites during CMAM days.
  9. Reporting on Nutrition activities.

Deliverables:
• Provide screening data / update to health facilities on Weekly basis.
• Avail themselves at the CMAM sites during CMAM days to help with activities.
• Report to the health facility/outreach site on a weekly basis for Defaulter/Absentees tracing and beneficiary follow-up.
• Provide MIYCN education and counselling including cooking demonstration, MIYCN case referral and reporting every month.
• Support the local health facility in community mobilization during federal/State health campaigns such as MICHW etc.

Selection Criteria:
• Candidates must be from their own community (To Work in their community).
• Literacy level – Able to fill data tools (highly educated/very young candidates have high turn-over)
• Respectable /Acceptable community member
• Able to speak Local languages
• Willing and motivated to work for the health of their Community.
• Settled in community with no immediate plans to migrate out of settlement-for work, education etc.
