General purpose of the position

The Community mobilization assistant will be responsible for the implementation and reporting of all CCCM activities in the field as defined in the project, maintaining close interactions with IDPs and local communities, ensuring strong relationships and promoting community ownership through all activities related to CCCM in targeted LGAs. S/he oversees a range of protection activities, including information provision and participatory assessments of target beneficiaries.

Tasks and Main Responsibilities

  • Identifies and assesses the needs of the most vulnerable individuals, particularly women at risk, and the available response opportunities in accordance with set guidelines, plans and schedules.
  • Conducts vulnerability assessment and identifies cases for assistance according to pre-defined criteria.
  • Refers protection related and sector specific cases to the relevant actors.
  • Ensures dissemination of clear and reliable information on service provision and other pre-selected key topics.
  • Conducts Focus Group Discussion, in close collaboration with CCCM team and protection partners.
  • Liaises with Community leaders, camp management committees and Protection Action Groups to enhance community engagement and participation.
  • Maintains good relation and communication with all field staff, Sector Managers and the National Project Manager as required.
  • Conducts information sessions, record feedback and report result back to Camp manager on issues of concern with recommended areas of intervention.
  • Conducts regular monitoring visits to the field, to follow-up on activities and ensure community participation in the activities.
  • Facilitates community sensitization on the program objectives and methods to stimulate and eventually promote the understanding and participation of the target population.
  • Maintains community and beneficiary engagement with the program, communicating any issue to the Community Mobilization Officer.
  • Carries out all tasks respecting key protection principles, including CP and PSEA policy.
  • Any other tasks assigned by Camp Manager Professional requirements
  • Minimum of Diploma/BSc. in Social Science or related fields of study.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in CCCM.
  • Minimum 2-year experience with recognized INGO

Personal requirements

  • Excellent networking skills, cultural sensitivity and adaptability.
  • High degree of negotiation and strong communication skills with ability to express ideas and concepts clearly and persuasively with senior members of the humanitarian community as well as with field practitioners.
  • Ability to work with a reasonable level of comfort in high tension and high security risk situations.
  • Understands work from a process point of view and uses measurement and accountability systems effectively.
  • Knowledge of NGO and Humanitarian industry.
  • Computer literacy (MS Excel, MS Word)
  • Good organizational skills Ability and willingness to travel between across locations of implementation within LGA.
  • Good command of written and spoken English, Kanuri and/or Hausa Language
