Restoration of Hope Initiative (ROHI) is a national Non-Governmental Organization based in Yola with a field office in Mubi, Adamawa State and Maiduguri Borno State. 

ROHI in partnership with PLAN International is implementing an 18-month protection intervention, focusing on SRHR and GBV prevention and response, including Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) to improve access to quality lifesaving SRHR and well-coordinated protection of adolescents and women at risk of GBV, through comprehensive case management, context specific information sharing with the support of the School Based Management Committee (SBMC) and enhanced Psychosocial Support (PSS) mechanisms in Adamawa State (Yola North, Yola South, Girei and Lamourde LGAs). 

ROHI is currently seeking qualified candidates for the positions of:

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT OFFICER

Location: Yola

The community Engagement Officer will:

  • Develop strong relationships with members of the project implementing communities and maintain contacts with the relevant community authorities and humanitarian actors at site level, to support the participation and inclusion of the project implementing communities.
  • Mediate between different groups living within the site, to support peaceful relations and reduce security tensions.
  • In close cooperation with the project implementing communities, organize appropriate social, recreational and cultural activities in the site which enhance social cohesion.
  • Promote a participatory approach (engagement of affected population) to site management and service provision across the site, making specific effort to promote the empowerment and full engagement of women and girls in the site.
  • Collect information on the needs and concerns of the project implementing communities, sharing with other stakeholders for follow-up. 
  • Support effective communication and information-sharing to the project implementing communities, including providing information on services, activities, and events in the site.  Develop and participate in awarenessraising sessions.
  • Support other ROHI field teams to ensure a participatory approach is fully integrated within all ROHI programs in other locations.
  • Where possible, support activities aimed at supporting collaboration and positive relations between the Project implementing communities and other community.
  • Support in the design and implementation of verification and distribution exercises, as well as other relevant activities in the project locations. 

Designs and implements workshops and empowerment activities, aiming to enhance community’ engagement and participation. 

  • Ensure that all activities/projects are implemented in accordance with agreed strategies, principles, implementation plans, and donor requirements. 
  • Prepare accurate and timely reports on progress on activities on site.  Attend and participate within ROHI field team meetings.
  • Support with the coordination of ROHI distributions in the project locations.
  • Undertake other tasks assigned by the Program coordinator to ensure the success of ROHI operations in all the implementing locations.
  • Provide inputs for all relevant internal and external reporting.
  • Ensure that all project-related documentation is of high quality and archived according to donor and ROHI requirements. 

    REQUIREMENTS
  • First Degree in international relations or related field, or any relevant experiences is an added advantage.
  • Minimum 3 years professional work experience with relevant projects 
  • Excellent analytical and strategic skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish effective working relations with local staff and other stakeholders.
  • Experience with refugee programming is essential.
  • Strong computer skills
  • High professional ethics
  • Knowledge of English, Hausa and local community languages is essential. 
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment. 
  • Proactivity, with a sound commitment to teamwork and with a spirit of genuine collaboration.
  • Strong initiative and self-motivated, with a strong commitment to humanitarian principle and high sense of ethics. 
  • Excellent communication skills, as well as patience and politeness.
  • Ability to cope with high workload and stress and identify priority activities and assignments, and adjust priorities as required.
