Doctors of the World is an international medical development NGO that is part of an international network. We provide medical assistance to vulnerable groups in Belgium and in the rest of the world.
We want universal health coverage where every person has access to care, without barriers (financial, cultural, geographical, etc.).
In Belgium and around the world, our projects are aimed at all people who have no or no access to health care. In particular, they are structured in five axes: people on the margins of society (homeless, paperless, drug users, sex workers, etc.) ; children in vulnerable situations ; women (accompanied in their fight for equality or against sexual violence for example) ; migrant or displaced persons and victims of crises or conflicts.
To carry out our mission, we rely on three pillars :

ESSENTIAL
Within the General Services and Finance Service Department, you ensure all aspects of accounting management in order to contribute to the achievement of sound financial management within the organization.
The function oversees a team of 5 staff and is under the hierarchical responsibility of the Finance Manager position.
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Chef.fe Accountant : Guarantor of the good accounting management of the’organisation according to Belgian law.
Orient, advise the staff of the’Accounting team to the use of tools, procedures and the’ execution of policies as defined within the finance department and in the annual’action plans.
Examples of tasks :
- Accounting Supervision : lead and supervise the accounting team, ensuring the division of tasks and monitoring of individual performance. Coordinate accounting activities, including general accounting, supplier accounting, customer accounting. Encode OD Subsides under the supervision of the Finance Manager. Supervise the’encoding process of invoices and payment (i.e. ISABEL) ; etc. Identify and solve the operational and technical problems encountered by the different members of the’ team.
- Accounting Closing : coordinate the process of closing the annual accounts in relation to the auditor, under the supervision of the Finance Manager. Ensure that all transactions are properly recorded, evaluated and justified ; etc
- Establishment of Financial States: participate in the preparation of the financial statements to internal and external bodies (i.e. MdM Network, Annual Report of’activities, Annual tax declaration, BNB publication, Statbel, etc.). Provide financial analysis to assist management in decision making ; etc
- Compliance and Taxation : ensure compliance with local and international accounting standards. Collaborate with external auditors during annual audits. Contribute to the answer to the auditors’ questions and follow up on the recommendations in connection with the general services department. Manage tax matters and coordinate with tax advisers. Ensure the monitoring of the accuracy of accounting principles and archiving principles in accordance with Belgian law, etc.
- Cash Management : S’ ensure cash management, with cash flow projections (monitoring of available funds, expected inflows and outflows, minimization of foreign exchange risks, bank reconciliation, …) ; in connection with banks. Optimize liquidity management to ensure the availability of necessary funds ; etc
- Automation and Process Improvement : identify opportunities for automation of accounting processes. Propose and implement improvements to increase operational efficiency (including the creation of dashboards). Implement the’installation of’a new accounting software. Develop and update the guides and manuals (e.g., accounting management guide..) ; etc.
- Cross-cutting collaboration with other departments : carry out the reconciliation of donations with marketing, under the supervision of the Finance manager and pilot the’encoding of donations ; etc
- Relay with the management: play the role of’alert in case of financial risks with the Finance Manager, follow provisions related to these financial risks ; etc
As a Team manager : coordinate the work of the different staff of the’ team by strengthening cohesion and motivation to ensure an optimal working environment according to the means and priorities of the department.
Examples of tasks :
- Training & Development : supervise and train the accounting team to develop individual and collective skills. Evaluate, set objectives for employees, develop individual’action plans, distribute activities and ensure the coordination of these. Accompany, support, stimulate each employee in his progress and increase their understanding of their strengths and weaknesses, deliver monthly feedback to each employee/trice, and solicit for yourself. Ensure, through coaching or the use of training, the optimization of the level of skills of employees
- Team organization : Plan and recruit the collaborators of his team. Participate in the restructuring reflections of his team’s organizational chart if necessary. Organize back-ups within his team
- Daily team management : Plan, organize, lead team meetings, ensure the communication of decisions and drafting of minutes. Ensure that the team remains informed of accounting and regulatory developments; etc. Supervise trainees in carrying out certain tasks.
The list of tasks given above is non-exhaustive and will be adapted as necessary.
YOUR PROFILE
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- Graduat or Master in Accounting, Management Sciences or Equivalent Experience.
- Min 3 ans d’expérience dans une fonction similaire dont une expérience d’1 an min en management d’équipe.
COMPETENCES et CONNAISSANCES
- Maitrise des principes comptables selon le droit Belge.
- Parfaite maîtrise du Pack Office (maîtrise Excel indispensable).
- Maîtriser et paramétrer les logiciels de comptabilité WINBOOKS et SAGA.
- Maîtrise de Isabel.
- Maitriser les rapports financiers internes (bilan, compte de résultats, etc).
- Parfaite maîtrise du français.
- Esprit analytique et grande rigueur dans le traitement des informations.
- Affinité avec le secteur non-marchand.
- Bonne organisation personnelle.

- Maîtrise du Néerlandais et/ou de l’anglais
NOUS OFFRONS

- A contract of indefinite duration, full-time (100% – 5 days weeks – 39h)
- A gross salary of € 3.850.26 for 3 years of’experience ; a gross salary of 3.925,03 € for 5 years of’experience ; a gross salary of 4.111,93 € for 10 years of’experience. Relevant experience recognized.
- Tickets restaurants (8€ of which 1,09€ per employee and 6,91€ per employer) – Hospitalization insurance – Refund at 100 % of public transport costs.
- Leaveovers: 20 Legal days + 6 days RTT + 4 extra legal days between Christmas and New year.
- Teleworking possibility up’s up to 2 days/week, with a premium of 14€/day for the whole month.
