About the Role
STRATEGIC HUMANITARIAN AID DEVELOPMENT ORGANISATION (SHADE) is looking for a compassionate and committed Psychosocial Support (PSS) Facilitator to provide mental health and psychosocial support services to conflict-affected children and youth. The facilitator will engage participants through structured sessions that promote emotional well-being, resilience, and social cohesion.
This position is ideal for individuals with experience in child protection, mental health, or psychosocial support who can create safe and inclusive spaces for healing and learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Session Facilitation & Support
- Plan and deliver structured PSS sessions and recreational activities tailored to the needs of vulnerable children and adolescents.
- Use participatory approaches such as storytelling, role play, and group dialogue to foster coping skills and psychosocial recovery.
- Identify children and youth in need of additional support and refer them to specialized services as needed.
- Safe Space Management
- Maintain a welcoming, inclusive, and child-friendly environment.
- Ensure safety and confidentiality of participants at all times.
- Support the organization and cleanliness of PSS spaces and materials.
- Monitoring & Reporting
- Maintain attendance records and submit regular activity reports.
- Collect feedback from participants and adapt sessions accordingly.
- Support assessments and documentation of outcomes and impact.
- Community Engagement
- Work with caregivers, community leaders, and schools to enhance understanding of child protection and mental health needs.
- Promote community involvement in PSS activities and referrals.
Key Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or degree in Psychology, Social Work, Education, or a related field.
- Minimum of 1–2 years’ experience in PSS, MHPSS, child protection, or community facilitation roles.
- Experience working with children and youth in conflict or crisis settings.
- Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills; ability to build trust and communicate with empathy.
- Fluency in English and at least one local language (Hausa, Kanuri, or Shuwa).
- Basic documentation and reporting skills.
