Call for Applications: Small Grant for Community Sensitization on Sickle Cell
BenueAID Community Development Initiative is excited to announce a call for applications for a small grant under her Discretionary Grant to support community sensitization outreaches on sickle cell disease to commemorate the World Sickle Cell Day 2024.
We invite dedicated non-profit organizations to apply for this opportunity to facilitate change in communities in Benue State.
Background:
Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) has remained neglected in the global health agenda for decades, even though the World Health Organisation, (WHO) declared it a public health priority in 2006. Often regarded as a rare genetic disease, Sickle Cell Disease is a life-threatening condition that affects millions of people worldwide, it’s a relentless battle, with moments of excruciating pain balanced by a build-up of resilience. In many communities in Nigeria, due to cultural and religious beliefs, sickle cell disease remains stigmatised, and families might prefer to hope all is well, rather than go through a potentially difficult marital counselling or new-born screening session, despite early detection being key to children’s health. Unsickle the Future: Fight Sickle Cell Disease Together presents a powerful opportunity to “Shine a Light’’ on this often-overlooked disease.
Introduction:
The World Sickle Cell Awareness Day 2024 with the theme Unsickle the Future: Fight Sickle Cell Disease Together is observed annually to increase public knowledge and understanding of sickle cell disease, and the challenges experienced by patients, their families, and caregivers.
In alignment with SDG goal 3 – Good Health and Well-being and our mandate to improve access to healthcare services, and increase awareness and management of Sickle Cell Disease (SCD), BenueAID is providing funding support to CSOs to facilitate community-based activities that support sickle cell patients in Benue State.
Objective:
The primary goal of the World Sickle Cell Day Campaign Grant is to empower NGOs in grassroots communities with funds to raise public understanding of sickle cell disease (SCD) while supporting patients with relief materials. We aim to reach a minimum of 50-100 participants per outreach, fostering information sharing and support.

Applying organization may request for grants within the range of: 100,000 Naira

Eligibility: non-profit organizations committed to health intervention in Benue State.
Project Scope:
Successful applicants will design and implement community-based initiatives that focus on:
- Conducting engaging and interactive workshops aimed at creating awareness on sickle cell.
- Developing IEC materials increases awareness of sickle cell disease.
- Utilizing communication channels such as community gatherings, local radio/TV, and posters to maximize reach on sickle cell.

Application Deadline:
All applications must be submitted by June 15, 2024. Late submissions will not be considered.
Submission Guidelines:
- Proposal should not exceed four (4) pages.
- The proposed project should align with the objectives of this call and demonstrate a clear strategy, methodology, and expected outcomes,
- Provide a detailed budget breakdown within the 100,000 Naira limit.
How to Apply:
Interested organizations should submit a proposal outlining their project idea, expected outcomes and budget breakdown using the templates to https://bit.ly/BenueAIDGrant by the deadline.
- A maximum of two (2) applicants will be selected.
- They will be notified of their selection and awarded by June 17, 2024.
- They must implement the project within June 2024
Only those proposals using the designated application form and including the required budget document will be considered.
