Advocacy and Capacity building officer At Future Resilience and Development Foundation (FRAD)

Future Resilience and Development Foundation (FRAD) is a registered non-profit organization with the corporate affairs commission, in accordance with the Nigerian Law, FRAD work in both humanitarian and development sector to build the resilience of Vulnerable populations through our interventions in thematic areas of WASH, Nutrition, Protection, Education and early recovery and livelihood. Over the years, FRAD has reached more than 19,000 children, men, women and girls through its various interventions.

FRAD work with the Mission to build the Resilience of vulnerable populations using locally available solutions that ensure participation and bring meaningful development, leaving no one behind. Our Mission and Vision guides our programming to ensure no one is left behind

Job Title –  Advocacy and Capacity building officer

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, law and other related field with at least three years’ experience in humanitarian response in the aspect of community engagement and advocacy. Computer proficiency, ability to multitask
  • Experience: experience in legal practice, advocacy, community engagement and capacity building
  • Experience in community and stakeholder engagement and capacity building.

Job Purpose

The Capacity Building and Advocacy Officer will lead and manage efforts to strengthen the capacity of partner organizations, staff, and community stakeholders. The officer will also be responsible for developing and implementing advocacy strategies to influence policy, strengthen institutional frameworks, and drive sustainable change. This role requires strong communication, networking, and leadership skills, and an in-depth understanding of capacity development and advocacy within the humanitarian or development sectors.

Duties and Responsibility

Functions / Day to day activities:

• Capacity Building:

  • Training Needs Assessment: Conduct capacity needs assessments for partner organizations, staff, stakeholders and community volunteers to identify areas for skill improvement and institutional strengthening.
  • Curriculum Development: Design and develop capacity-building training modules, tools, and resources to address the identified needs.
  • Training Delivery: Facilitate and deliver workshops, seminars, and training sessions to build the capacity of stakeholders.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Develop systems to monitor and assess the impact of capacity-building activities and report on progress, successes, and areas needing further support.

•  Advocacy:

  • Advocacy Strategy Development: Design and implement advocacy strategies that promote FRAD’s policy priorities and drive systemic change at the local, regional, and national levels.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with government agencies, donors, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to support advocacy efforts.
  • Policy Analysis: Conduct research and analysis on relevant policy issues to inform advocacy positions and strategies.
  • Policy Briefing and Position Papers: Develop policy briefs, position papers, and other advocacy materials to influence decision-makers and raise awareness about critical issues.
  • Public Awareness Campaigns: Plan and implement advocacy campaigns aimed at raising public awareness and influencing public opinion on key issues.
  • Representation and Lobbying: Represent FRAD in meetings, conferences, and events to advocate for policy change and build alliances with other organizations.

•  Partnership Development:

  • Establish partnerships with local and international organizations to enhance collaboration in advocacy and capacity-building efforts.
  • Support the organization in identifying potential funding opportunities related to capacity building and advocacy.

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Prepare detailed reports on capacity-building and advocacy activities, highlighting achievements, challenges, and recommendations for future programming.
  • Ensure proper documentation of all advocacy and capacity-building efforts for accountability and learning purposes.

•  Cross-Departmental Support:

  • Collaborate with other departments to integrate capacity-building and advocacy efforts into the organization’s broader programming.
  • Provide technical advice to program teams to ensure that advocacy and capacity-building components are well-integrated into project designs.

Requirement:

  • Must be honest, accountable, a good listener, able to work in a team, transparent and honest.
  • Must have understanding and ability to action and communicate DEI principles in all activities.
  • Must be computer literate, with a good knowledge of MS office suites and google workspace.
  • Bachelor’s degree in social science, with at least 3 years’ experience in similar role.
  • Good report writing and workshop facilitation.
  • Fluent in Hausa, Kanuri and local languages within the LGAs of implementation.
  • The position will be based at the head office with frequent travel to field locations.
