The following vacancy is open to all residents of Nigeria.

Contract Period: Indefinite

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performing the Watsan day-to-day activities such as collecting and sorting wastes before disposal, keeping the incinerator in good working order, ensuring the cleaning and correct hygiene status of the latrines, cleaning the water storage and treatment tanks, etc.
  • Knowing and applying security and hygiene standards regarding the operation of WHS infrastructure, taking care of his/her own safety.
  • Informing the line manager and/or technical adviser of any incidents that might compromise his/her (or that of others) safety or security.
  • Ensuring the availability and correct usage of all material and equipment.

MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities

  • Routine hospital compound clearing of grasses; compound waste management. In charge of cleaning compound wastes in the premises, positioning, monitoring and transporting compound waste collection bins to the waste zone (not medical waste).

Covering gaps in the waste zone and support the waste zone operators including monitoring of domestic waste management in all locations.

  • Support in deep cleaning of the tents when needed. Responsible for cleaning and maintaining all water fetching points including caretaker laundry area water points.
  • Responsible for periodic cleaning of grease traps and rainwater channels in the Hospital.
  • Support in vector control (IRS and rodent control) in all MSF project locations.
  • Notify supervisor concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
  • Support the EH Technician in carrying out routine maintenance and repairs, assessments and other identified works in all MSF locations as requested by the Technician or Manager.
  • Support the Environmental Health teams during any Environmental Health activities as requested by the Technician and/or

Manager.

Minimum Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Education: Diploma in Environmental Health. Preferably trained by MSF in hygiene and sanitation  Experience: Minimum I-year experience with MSF/other INGO in hygiene and sanitation desirable.
  • Languages: Local language (Hausa, Kanuri) essential. English language desirable.
  • Competencies: Results and Quality Orientated, Teamwork and Cooperation, Behavioural Flexibility, Commitment to MSF Principles, Stress Management.
