Background
Justice, Development and Peace Initiative (JDPI) is a non-governmental organization engaged in developmental works in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa States for the past 50 years. JDPI also focuses on Agriculture, WaSH, Nutrition, MHPSS and other emergency programming, reaching out to all persons on the basis of need, regardless of creed, ethnicity or nationality.
JDPI is inviting suitably qualified candidates for the above-mentioned position to work in Jere, Magumeri and Kaga LGA.
Candidate must be prepared to start work as soon as possible.
Duration: 11 Months
Location: Maiduguri (Jere and Magumeri)
Background
Under the supervision of the Infrastructure Officer and Senior Project Officer, the WaSH Assistant will be responsible for supporting the programming and implementing infrastructure activities within target areas. This includes leading community-led needs assessments, support the team in conducting technical engineering assessments, Hygiene promotion sessions, support with preparing designs and bills of quantities, supervising construction works, and ensuring quality and compliance with JDPI, CRS, Government of Nigeria, and international standards.
Responsibilities of a WaSH Assistant:
- To assist the Infrastructure Officer in the coordination of the WaSH Technical activities according to strategy, proposals, budgets, and plans
- To assist the Infrastructure Officer in all aspects of WaSH Technical programs planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation
- To assist in the identification of community water and sanitation needs
- To assess the water and sanitation training needs of the community and assist in the development of appropriate training materials and plans.
- Conducts water quality testing and sanitary inspection at water points.
- Provides technical assistance to the Infrastructure Officer and local counterparts on issues of water and sanitation information and communication strategies.
- Assists in the establishment, and training of water point committees as well as monitoring their performance.
- Assists in the compilation of weekly and monthly WASH Technical reports, program documents, project proposals, and budgets.
- Involve and inform communities and community leaders about the activities.
- Support the Infrastructure Officer in Breaking down the annual operational plans into weekly, monthly, and quarterly implementation plans.
- Support in ensuring that procurement, development, and distribution of materials and equipment are timely and according to procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Sc. or Higher Diploma in Geology, Civil and Water Resources Engineering, and Hydrology
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with Wash Technical projects in a humanitarian/recovery context.
- Must have knowledge of early recovery Water supply, Hygiene, Sanitation requirements and protocols.
- Familiarity with international minimum standards of Hygiene, Sanitation and shelter service delivery (i.e., SPHERE).
- Must have previous experience in training and Training of Trainers.
- Must be willing to work as a team member, take direction, and share technical skills with colleagues and counterparts.
- Computer literacy in word processing and spreadsheets is required,
- Familiarity with GPS, ArcGIS, EPANET and Google Earth is strongly desirable.
- Must be able to work under pressure.
