Terms of Reference (ToR) for External Consultant to Conduct Training and Coaching on Business Development and Fundraising

Organization: Initiative for Justice Development and Peace-Building in Nigeria (IJDPN a.k.a. JDPC)

Location: Yola, Adamawa State, Nigeria
Duration of Assignment: 5 working days

Reporting To: Executive Director / Program Manager

1. Background

Initiative for Justice Development and Peace-Building in Nigeria (IJDPN a.k.a. JDPC)continues to strengthen the capacity of its sta+ to deliver sustainable development programs and e+ectively mobilize resources for its interventions. To sustain and expand its work, there is a need to equip sta+ with enhanced skills in business development and fundraising. In line with this, JDPC seeks to engage an external consultant to provide practical training and coaching to its sta+.

2. Objective of the Consultancy

To build the capacity of 30 JDPC sta+ on business development and fundraising through a 5-day intensive training and coaching program that enhances their skills in proposal writing, donor mapping, and fundraising strategy development.

3. Scope of Work

The consultant will:

  • Design and deliver a 5-day training program covering:
    • Proposal writing and grant development
    • Donor mapping and analysis
    • Fundraising strategy development
  • Facilitate interactive sessions, group work, and practical exercises including:
    • Drafting funding proposals
    • Conducting donor research
    • Developing fundraising strategies tailored to JDPC’s programs
  • Administer pre- and post-test assessments to measure knowledge acquisition.
  • Provide individualized coaching sessions to address specific fundraising challenges and refine participants’ proposal drafts.
  • Submit a comprehensive training report including results of the pre/post-tests, key outcomes, and recommendations for follow-up support.

4. Deliverables

The consultant is expected to deliver:

  1. Training agenda, methodology, and materials prior to the training.
  2. Delivery of a 5-day training and coaching program for 30 sta+.
  3. Pre- and post-training assessment results.
  4. Final training report with recommendations for sustaining fundraising capacity.

5. Duration and Timeline

The consultancy will last 5 working days, starting from the date of contract signing. The consultant is expected to deliver the inception plan prior to commencement.

6. Qualifications and Experience The ideal consultant will have:

  • Advanced degree in Development Studies, Business Administration, Project Management, or related field.
  • At least 5 years of proven experience in fundraising, grant writing, and business development within NGOs or international organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and facilitating trainings on fundraising and resource mobilization.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and coaching skills.
  • Excellent writing and reporting skills.

7. Reporting and Supervision

The consultant will report to the Executive Director or a designated focal person and work closely with the Program Manager.

8. Payment Terms

Payments will be made in tranches upon satisfactory delivery of agreed milestones:

  • 20% on submission of training agenda and materials.
  • 40% upon completion of the training and coaching sessions.
  • 40% upon submission and approval of the final training report.
