About the Project
The project, “Comprehensive Approach to Empowering Women and Youth for Social Cohesion and Sustainable Peace in Borno State,” focuses on rebuilding social cohesion and promoting sustainable peace in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) and Jere Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno State. With targeted interventions in Shuwari, Jiddari Polo, Ngomari, Lamisula, and Maduganari wards, the project aims to address the root causes of violence, weak governance, and socio-economic vulnerabilities. Key activities include human rights training, peace education, economic empowerment, and fostering trust between communities and security forces. The initiative prioritizes including women, youth, and child-headed households, creating a scalable model for conflict resolution and resilience-building in affected regions.
Position: Technical Advisor (Gender and Peacebuilding)
Location: MMC/Jere – Borno State
Role Summary:
The Technical Advisor will provide strategic guidance on gender and peacebuilding aspects of the project, ensuring the inclusion of women and youth in all initiatives. This role involves capacity building, advocacy, and ensuring gender-sensitive approaches throughout project implementation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Offer technical expertise on gender, inclusion, and peacebuilding strategies.
- Design and oversee workshops and training sessions for women and youth on leadership and conflict resolution.
- Support the establishment of community peace clubs and youth-led initiatives.
- Develop materials and activities promoting gender equality and non-violence.
- Advise on integrating gender-sensitive practices across all project components.
- Facilitate community dialogues and forums to build trust and tolerance.
- Document best practices and contribute to project reports and evaluations.
Qualifications and Expertise:
- Advanced degree in Gender Studies, Peacebuilding, International Development, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in gender mainstreaming and peacebuilding projects.
- Demonstrated expertise in working with women and youth in conflict-affected areas.
- Strong facilitation and training skills.
- Familiarity with the socio-political context of northeastern Nigeria is an asset.
