Job Summary

The Senior Program Officer will work closely with other staff, partners and stakeholders in project supported states by providing clinical and technical assistance in the implementation of Safe Motherhood Strategy (SMS) and Comprehensive Fistula Care (CFC) program activitiesin accordance with national and SFHF standards and guidelines.

Essential Responsibilities

The SPO will perform the following roles:

  • Project Designing & Work plan: Participate in concept or proposal development and work planning for Safe Motherhood Strategy (SMS) and Comprehensive Fistula Care (CFC) program activities.

Project Implementation:

  • Lead all the preparatory steps and arrangements for clinical program implementation by developing the activity profile and budget, identification of resources needed, site notification and preparations and collaborate with the logistics team and partner facilities leadership to ensure that all necessary items are available to assure quality services.
  • Budgeting & Procurements: Work with the Finance and Logistics teams regarding budgeting and procurement processes for program activities and supplies.
  • Clinical Monitoring & Quality Improvement: Participate in the implementation of quality improvement approaches of the organization in Project-supported clinical sites such as Baseline Assessments, Clinical Monitoring & Technical Support visits, Clinical Data Review Meetings, Infection Control etc.
  • Capacity Building for Providers: Assess training needs, when appropriate; coordinate planned training of community structures and healthcare providers to improve knowledge, skill competence on Maternal and Newborn Health and Fistula management as required.
  • Collaboration: Identify key stakeholders and partners including government and other authorities in all the project states to support implementation of project-supported activities.
  • Report writing: Provide smart written reports for all program activities, typically immediately after coclusion. Also, He/she will contribute to the development of project quarterly and annual activity reports.
  • Monitoring & Evaluation: Work with the Project M&E in data collection from all program activities and focal health facilities. 
  • Represents the organization as assigned at meetings, forum or conferences of partners and other stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Skills and Abilities:

  • A qualified health practitioner (Nurse/Midwife) with at least 3 years work experience in area of Health Promotion, clinical projects implementation or other related areas.
  • Excellent understanding of programming from working with Non-profit health organization is an advantage
  • Experience in primary health care facility management and supervision
  • Demonstrable in-depth knowledge of reproductive health including maternal and newborn health, Family Planning and Fistula.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills applicable in a wide variety of settings
  • A proven ability to meet deadlines with strong multi-tasking skills.
  • Great problem-solving skills
  • Fluency in Hausa language is an advantage.
  • Ability to travel up to 40%, mostly internally in Nigeria.
