Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Providing technical assistance to health care facilities supported by CIHP in focal states. Such assistance include training of staff in clinical management of HIV/AIDS, initiating and supervising ART clinics at hospital level, providing ongoing mentoring and supportive supervision to pediatric clinicians, assisting facility-based teams to develop/improve Paediatric care systems, referral systems, adherence support systems, patient flow, medical records etc.
  • Perform site visits and site assessments of treatment facilities to assess, initiate and enhance pediatric care and treatment services.
  • Serve as a resource for the evaluation of ongoing Paediatric care and treatment programs and in the subsequent development of new and/or expanded programs for the care and treatment of HIV/AIDS in infants, children and teenagers.
  • Develop linkages systems with PMTCT programs to ensure follow up of HIV exposed neonates and infants.
  • Support early infant diagnostic testing initiatives at supported sites.
  • Institute programs to identify HIV exposed and -Infected children including inpatient pediatric
  • testing programs, pediatric HIV testing in adult clinics, linkages with OVC etc.
  • Work with state teams to ensure that all HIV infected children are enrolled into HIV care and HIV infected children are initiated on HAART.
  • Review of program data to identify hotspots to optimize HCT in children and increase yield.
  • Utilization of different capacity building initiatives including CMEs, onsite training sessions, mentoring and supportive supervisory visits etc. to build capacity of healthcare workers on various aspects of pediatric care
  • Ensure provision of qualitative care for children across all supported sites
  • Work with state team to expand Youth wellness center and adolescence care package.
  • Partnership with Vocational Training Institutes/Community Based organizations on skills acquisition for young people attending centers for site sustainability.
  • Develop and implement a pediatrics transition program from infected children through adolescence to adult to improve pediatrics retention, positive adjustment and better quality of life.
  • Support adolescent friendly differentiated care model
  • Design and implement quality improvement program using various strategies.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine, Public Health or a related field; or a Master’s or equivalent in Public Health or related fields residency in Internal Medicine
  • At least 3 years’ post NYSC experience in developing country health care programs or program support function
  • Knowledge of the policies, regulations, reporting formats, and cultures of principal donors, including USAID, EC, DFID, CDC/PEPFAR, and others
  • Extensive clinical experience in care and treatment of HIV/AIDS patients
  • Demonstrated experience in non-profit sector in a program management role
  • Strong supervisory and management skills
  • Analytical Thinking & Conceptualization
  • Leadership and cross learning capacity
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and make reasoned judgments in a timely fashion. Committing to a course of action without undue delay or prevarication
  • Experience of dealing with difficult and sensitive situations in a diplomatic and professional manner.
