To support our projects, we are looking for a Safeguarding Coordinator.
Opportunities are available throughout 2025 to support our missions in Libya, Uganda, Malawi, South Sudan; DRC, Mali, Burkina, Pakistan and CAR.
Assignment :
The Safeguarding Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the integration of safeguarding practices (prevention, detection and response to abuse) in MSF missions and programs.
Working closely with all relevant departments and individuals, the Safeguarding Coordinator ensures that the safeguarding policy is understood at all levels, embedded in project activities, enshrined in recruitment practices and reflected in our approach with communities and patients. In addition, the Safeguarding Coordinator will support the mission’s response to abuse, advising on a victim/survivor-centred approach.
Depending on the context, this may include consultations with patients, caregivers and community members, interactions with partners and collaborators, and networking with PEAS (Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) stakeholders.
Main responsibilities:
The Safeguarding Coordinator works closely with a variety of staff, such as mission or project coordinators, supervisors, MSf and/or partner staff, volunteers, community members, patients and caregivers as needed.
Activities :
- Lead and/or support the mission and projects in the analysis of safeguarding risks, while ensuring the monitoring of the implementation of measures intended to prevent or reduce these risks.
- Identify gaps in staff awareness and adapt MSF OCP training to various contexts as necessary.
- Raise awareness among MSF staff and external partners on abuse prevention and available reporting mechanisms. Identify key staff and train them to raise awareness among other employees.
- In collaboration with human resources departments, ensure that safeguarding is integrated into recruitment and human resources practices.
- In collaboration with relevant departments, deploy an awareness-raising strategy for patients and community members on safe access to MSF services and access to feedback and complaint mechanisms.
- Strengthen staff capacity to report safely by identifying barriers in the reporting system and channels and empowering staff to safely handle and receive complaints of abuse.
- Support the mission’s response to cases of abuse, providing advice on case management and survivor-centered approach.
Profile :
Experience
- 2 years of experience in coordinating or implementing safeguarding activities in the field
- Experience in protection related areas, such as gender-based violence or child protection, is an asset.
- At least one experience working in a multicultural environment.
- A humanitarian and/or emergency context is an advantage.
- Experience in designing and integrating accountability tools is a plus.
- Field experience as a project coordinator/project management is an asset.
SKILLS
- In-depth knowledge of safeguarding mechanisms in the humanitarian and international development sector, including relevant international standards and frameworks.
- Ability to collaborate with different departments to integrate safeguarding into programs.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and report writing skills.
- Ability to identify knowledge gaps and adapt training content to facilitate sessions.
- Demonstrate integrity, fairness and respect for diversity, with a proactive, autonomous and collaborative work style.
Languages:
Fluency in French and/or English (level B2). Arabic is also required for Arabic-speaking countries.
Status and availability:
Full-time fixed-term contract (CDD) of 6 to 12 months.
Terms :
Location: The Coordinator position is based in one country/mission. Depending on the scope of the role, the Coordinator may either support projects in that country or oversee multiple countries/missions, which also requires travel to other locations.
Salary : based on the MSF salary scale and your previous experience in international NGOs.
Expected start date: April 2025
