Background

Concern for Women and Children Development Foundation (COWACDI) is a women-led organization born out of passion for the wellbeing of Women and Children in Nigeria. It has a special interest in mitigating the suffering of the vulnerable persons (mostly Women & Children) in times of crisis. Currently the organization has focused its attention on the Northeast of Nigeria with special emphasis in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states (BAY states) due to the decade old crises. COWACDI intervenes through community-based approach in addressing humanitarian and development needs since its establishment in 1998, these include in Protection, Peace Building, Housing Land & Property (HLP), Non-food Items (NFI), Livelihood, WASH, Nutrition, Livelihood, amongst others. These interventions have directly benefited thousands of children, women, men, girls and boys of all groups. Determined to expand her interventions to reach more vulnerable people in conflict affected regions. COWACDI operates with full respect to humanitarian laws, concrete policies and principles of international standard such as humanity, Do no harm, impartiality, neutrality, independency and accountability to affected population and zero Tolerance to Fraud and related activities.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Contract Duration: 9 Months

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure adherence to survivor-centered approaches: Guide and supervise team members, including case workers, safe space facilitators, volunteers, and enumerators, to follow survivor-centered practices, maintain confidentiality, and adhere to GBV case management protocols.
  • Provide technical support and mentorship: Conduct regular field supervision, coaching, and mentoring to strengthen staff performance, build capacity, and ensure quality service delivery.
  • Oversee case management quality: Review case files to ensure accurate, timely, and confidential documentation; monitor intake processes, referrals, follow-ups, and safe case closure; and provide guidance on handling complex or high-risk cases.
  • Facilitate coordination and referrals: Ensure smooth coordination between field staff, safe space facilitators, volunteers, enumerators, and service providers; support mapping and updating of referral pathways to strengthen linkages to multi-sectoral services.
  • Reporting and data management: Compile and submit comprehensive reports on case management activities, trends, emerging GBV risks, and service gaps to the Protection/GBV Assistant; ensure data is accurate, confidential, and stored securely.
  • Capacity building and training: Organize and facilitate training and refresher sessions for field staff on GBV case management, referrals, safeguarding, PSEA, and protection principles; support continuous learning and skill development.
  • Community engagement and outreach: Support staff in planning and implementing community awareness campaigns, Safe Space activities, and outreach sessions on GBV prevention, services, and safe reporting mechanisms, ensuring confidentiality and “Do No Harm” principles.
  • Compliance and standards: Ensure team adherence to inter-agency GBV guidelines, national protection standards, and organizational SOPs; uphold safeguarding, data protection, and PSEA policies in all activities.
  • Risk identification and escalation: Identify, analyze, and promptly escalate safeguarding concerns, protection risks, or high-risk cases to the Protection/GBV Assistant for immediate action.
  • Performance management: Conduct performance appraisals, monitor field activities, and provide constructive feedback to enhance staff accountability, motivation, and overall service quality.
  • Monitoring, evaluation, and learning: Support collection, analysis, and use of monitoring and evaluation data to assess program effectiveness, inform decision-making, and strengthen GBV service delivery.
  • Safe Space Oversight: Supervise Safe Spaces and Safe Space facilitators to ensure they provide safe, supportive, and inclusive environments for survivors, while maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards.

Tasks:

  • Conduct weekly home visits to defaulters and absentees of SAM and MAM cases.
  • Support accurate and timely data collection using digital tools and ensure proper documentation.
  • Report irregularities, protection concerns, fraud risks, and market issues through the appropriate report channel.
  • Assist in preparing distribution plans, beneficiary lists, and reconciliation documents.

Other tasks:

  • Perform any other assigned tasks by the Nutrition Assistant and Nutrition Coordinator.
  • Support in identifying and addressing protection concerns during nutrition intervention.
  • Facilitate awareness session on MIYCN/Tom brown practice.

Desirable Skills

  • Leadership & Team Management: Ability to supervise, mentor, and motivate GBV case workers, volunteers, and enumerators effectively.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of GBV case management, protection standards, safeguarding, and PSEA.
  • Analytical & Decision-Making Skills: Capacity to assess complex cases, identify risks, and provide guidance for safe and survivor-centered solutions.
  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to work collaboratively with staff, partners, and community members.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple cases, ensure timely reporting, and maintain high standards of documentation and data confidentiality.
  • Problem-Solving & Adaptability: Able to handle challenging situations in dynamic humanitarian or community settings.
  • Professionalism & Ethics: Upholds confidentiality, “Do No Harm” principles, and ethical conduct in all interactions.
  • Capacity Building: Ability to train, coach, and support staff development to improve service delivery.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Strong knowledge of GBV case management, protection standards, safeguarding, and PSEA principles.
  • Proven leadership, team management, and capacity-building skills; ability to mentor staff and ensure high- quality, survivor-centered service delivery.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills; ability to handle high-risk and dynamic humanitarian contexts.
  • Upholds professionalism, ethics, confidentiality, and “Do No Harm” principles.
  • Willingness to conduct community outreach, supervise Safe Spaces, and travel to field sites under challenging conditions.

Educational Qualification & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, Psychology, Gender Studies, Sociology, Community Development, or related field.
  • 3–5 years’ experience in GBV case management, protection, or humanitarian work, including supervising teams of case workers, volunteers, and enumerators.

Language required:

Fluency in oral and written English is required. Hausa and Native Language of the area would be an added advantage.
