AI BRIDGE (AI Bias Reduction & Inclusive Data Generation Engine) is a multi-phase initiative to reduce gender bias in AI models by:
- Developing gender-sensitive AI tools in 17 African languages
- Enabling inclusive, fair datasets through automated and human-in-the-loop sanitization processes
Partners:
- AfriLabs: Africa’s largest innovation hub network across 53 countries
- Gates Foundation: Focus on gender-sensitive digital inclusion
- Meta: Supports Llama Impact Grants for open-source AI use
Objectives of Phase 2
- Detect & mitigate gender bias in datasets used for AI/LLMs
- Provide tools to rewrite biased content without losing meaning
- Promote inclusive AI for African linguistic and cultural contexts
- Deliver model-agnostic pipelines via open APIs
Methodology Overview
- Data Ingestion: Curate diverse datasets in African languages
- Bias Detection: Use hybrid methods (rules + ML) to flag bias
- Content Analysis: Contextual tagging & classification
- Content Sanitization: Transformer models + controlled vocabulary
- Human-in-the-loop Validation: Gender and language expert reviews
- Finalization: Version control, documentation, traceability
- Continuous Learning: Feedback integration into model updates
Role: Gender & Language Expert (Consultant)
Scope of Work:
- Technical Advisory: Guide teams on gender bias detection/sanitization in 17 languages
- Review AI Outputs: Flag and advise on gender bias and cultural sensitivity
- Develop Guidelines: Co-create evaluation checklists and best practices
- Mentorship: Offer virtual capacity-building sessions and 1-on-1/team mentoring
- Documentation: Produce a final report with insights and future recommendations
