Médecins Sans Frontières is a non-governmental humanitarian organization, created in France in 1971, under the status of a non-profit association. Nobel Peace Prize in 1999. Médecins Sans Frontières aims to provide humanitarian medical aid to any affected population without distinction of ethnicity, gender, religion, philosophy or political opinion.

DIRECT RESPONSIBLE: Responsible for medical activities
Main goal
Provide psychological support to patients, in accordance with MSF principles, standards and procedures , in order to improve their mental health. Provide information and tools for mental health prevention.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the confidentiality of all patient information.
- Inform your superior and the medical team of any questions or problems that may arise in relation to the treatment, in order to offer the best solution from a medical point of view.
- Collect statistics and monitor data relating to mental health activities
- Assist and train staff members and, if necessary, other stakeholders in order to broaden the scope of mental health activities. Work closely with translators to determine the vocabulary and attitude to adopt during sessions.
- Provide psychological support and psychotherapy sessions (individual, family, group), in accordance with MSF protocols, without judgment or discrimination, and in a way that improves the mental health of patients.
- Implement the protocol for the care of victims of sexual violence (VVS), identify victims of VVS and refer them to the medical team in order to provide them with the necessary treatment.
- Conduct mental health needs assessment, establish a diagnosis and management plan, inform the family of the possible consequences of the illness and refer patients to other professionals when necessary.
MSF Section Specific Responsibilities/Context
- Offer mental health advice: prevention and information on identifying signs of anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, mood disorders; advice on stress and anxiety management.
- Participate in awareness events for the migrant population on mental health.
- Offer discussion groups adapted to the migrant population, ensuring that the composition of the groups allows everyone to express themselves freely and safely.
- Adapt to the beliefs and culture of the patients being treated. Work closely with translators when necessary.
- If a patient is referred to a facility or other mental health professional, ensure follow-up of this referral.
Professional skills
Education:
Diploma in Psychology essential
Experience:
Minimum 2 years of experience as a Psychologist;
Experience within MSF or another NGO in developing countries desirable.
LANGUAGES
Oral and written French is essential.
English is desirable.
Wolof is an asset.
Knowledge
