The above position is based with Global Survivors Fund (GSF) project implemented by the Future Resilience and Development Foundation (FRAD Foundation). The recruited candidate will report to the FRAD State Coordinator and will have dotted reporting lines to the GSF Focal Person.

Background

The Global Survivors Fund (“GSF”) was launched in October 2019 by Dr Denis Mukwege and Nadia Murad, Nobel Peace Prize laureates 2018. Its mission is to enhance access to reparations for survivors of conflict-related sexual violence around the globe, thus responding to a gap long identified by survivors. GSF acts to provide interim reparative measures (IRM) in situations where states or other parties are unable or unwilling to meet their responsibilities. GSF advocates for duty bearers as well as the international community to develop reparations programmes. It also guides states and civil society by providing expertise and technical support for designing reparations programmes. GSF’s survivor-centric approach is the cornerstone of its work.

Future Resilience and Development Foundation (FRAD) is a non-governmental organization registered by law under CAC in 2019 to address the needs of vulnerable populations across thematic areas of Education, Protection, Health/Nutrition, WASH/environment, Governance/Peace building and Early recovery/livelihood. Role Summary

Psychological counselors will provide counseling and psychosocial support to survivors, and work as team leads across their project locations (LGA). They will maintain regular communication with survivors and facilitate their involvement in interim reparative measures (IRM) processes. Their role involves supporting and strengthening survivors, ensuring ongoing support and continuous accompaniment from psychosocial caseworkers, and actively engaging in operational co- management of the project with the survivors, psychosocial caseworkers, and community mobilizers.

Responsibilities

• Provide psychological, mental health, and psychosocial (MPPSS) support to CRSV survivors participating in the project.
• Provide psychological assessment for participating survivors and identify appropriate services needed for, and by participants.
• Build an interactional framework with survivors based on openness, accessibility, continuous conversations, individual, and group consultations.
• Accompany participating survivors throughout the project life cycle with MHPSS assistance as may be required in designated project locations.
• Keep records of clinical, MHPSS, and medical needs, consultations, and requirements of participating survivors.
• Be available at the request of participating survivors for in-house consultations, visits, personal or familial interventions.
• Implement IRM related to psychological support for participating survivors.
• Provide adequate medical referral pathways for participating survivors.
• Closely monitor MHPSS recovery of cases, ensuring that cases have clear wellbeing outcomes.
• Ensure utmost confidentiality in relations with survivors, survivor data and PSS support provided.
• With psychological and psychosocial support provided, assist survivors in project participation, as well as ensure transformative impact of project is enjoyed by survivors.
• Provide context-related MHPSS support to entities related directly to the survivors’ wellbeing such as husband, family, and community members.
• Support survivor mobilizers in sensitization and awareness campaigns for the project.
• Conduct MHPSS activities, trainings, capacity building sessions, and sensitizations as required for project team and participating survivors.
• Provide regular updates to participating survivor’s case worker on survivors’ journey as related to project processes.
• Ensure that individual MHPSS support is complemented by group MHPSS support, and vice versa.
• Follow principles of respect, confidentiality, non-discrimination, and safety in providing support to participating survivors.
• Provide timely reports on MHPSS support to feed into overall project plan and implementation.
• Lead and manage the PSS case working team as assigned by supervisor.
• Be responsible for managing the participation of survivors in receiving medical IRM.
• Carry out any other project-related task as specified by supervisor.

In conjunction with the implementation team:

• Provide active technical support in the organization and conduct of work consistent with the priorities and schedules defined in the team and validated by the project officer and state coordinator.
• Be active and proactive in team leadership, and supporting all team members to take ownership of the project.
• Participate in conflict resolution and arbitration if necessary, and provide regular, formal, individual, and group evaluations of assigned team members.
• Actively participate in community activities and advocacy meetings (semi-annual, monthly, and ad hoc).

• Ensure contacts with the authorities in the field for a good external relationship with the community and related stakeholders (especially hospitals and other health care providers).

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor’s   degree   in    psychology,   mental   health,   guidance    and   counselling, psychosocial studies, or a related discipline. Master’s degree is an added advantage.
• Minimum of 3-5 years’ professional experience in psychological and MHPSS service provision.
• Strong experience working with gender and sexual based violence survivors. Experience with CRSV survivors is an added advantage.
• Proficient skills in English and Hausa. Kanuri and other languages spoken in northeastern Nigeria is an added advantage.
• Team leadership and team management experience is essential.
• Ability to prepare and provide trainings. Excellent presentation skills are thus required.
• Excellent computer, reporting, and tech-savvy skills.
• Openness and accessible demeanor, high attention to detail, and ability to work independently.

• Ability to proactively take on any additional responsibilities, functions, or tasks that arise during the execution of the program due to absence of other personnel, or any other unforeseen reason.
