Job Title: Project Field Officer

Description:
The role will be responsible for the effective and professional performance of project activities.
This role has an area focus and ensures compliance with PRIDE procedures and guidelines within the area. The role contributes to the development of area strategies, which are translated into action plans and day-to-day tasks. The role provides technical support and guidance for protection operations.
Primary Responsibilities:
The duties of the incumbent may include:
- Monitor the protection environment and coordinate with concerned local authorities through direct contact with population, returnees, refugees, and displaced persons, and in cooperation with other UN Agencies, INGOs and NGOs present in the area. Alert the Head of Office on violations of human rights with recommendations on follow-up actions to be taken.
- Assess assistance needs of the affected population, minorities and displaced persons, taking into concern the particular needs of vulnerable groups, such as women children and the elderly. Initiate assistance program in cooperation with local authorities and aid agencies. Monitor delivery of assistance, especially to vulnerable groups.
- Analyze political/social situation in the area in view of return of IDPs/refugees to their places of origin; provide advice to PoCs on safety and security issues as well as living conditions in the respective areas.
- Promote the respect of human rights through contacts with community leaders. Act as a mediator between displaced persons and local authorities or political groups. Propose and negotiate confidence building measures between groups/persons, initiate discussions towards the reconciliation of differences between ethnic and political groups.
- Initiate measures to raise awareness of protection issues, such as the rights of minorities, children, and women. Work with academic institutions, law enforcement officials, and authorities for effective protection of IDPs, refugees, and asylum seekers.
- Prepare periodic reports on protection activities within the assigned area of responsibility. Prepare reports concerning protection with succinct recommendations to intervene as appropriate.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least three-years previous NGO or humanitarian work experience.
- University Degree in Social sciences or related qualification in social work, protection or human rights
- Good data collection/analysis and reporting skills
- Experience using online data collection software.
- Familiar with computers, Outlook, Excel and MS Word, mobile surveys
- Experience in protection monitoring and reporting.
- Honest, hardworking, and independent.
- Fluency in English, both written and verbal. Fluency in Somali local languages appropriate to the target population.
