Job Title: Programs Coordinator – Access to Justice
Reports to: CEO
Location: Abuja, Nigeria (with frequent travel Locally and Internationally)

Job Purpose:
The Programs Coordinator – Access to Justice will lead and coordinate the design, implementation, and monitoring of projects that enhance legal access, promote judicial reforms, and improve justice delivery systems in Nigeria. The role involves managing field activities, facilitating legal empowerment and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) initiatives, building partnerships with key justice sector actors, and contributing to systemic reform through evidence-based reporting and policy engagement.
The Coordinator will support PPDC’s justice-focused interventions such as the Court Administration and Case Management (CACM) program and Reforming Pretrial Detention in Nigeria (RPDN), in collaboration with CSOs, the judiciary, correctional services, and donor agencies.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Design and Implementation
- Design and implement justice sector reform programs in partnership with CSOs, bar associations, judiciary stakeholders, and donors.
- Coordinate access to justice interventions across federal and state levels, ensuring activities are responsive to local justice needs.
- Manage and support legal empowerment campaigns, legal aid delivery, and ADR mechanisms in underserved communities.
Stakeholder Engagement & Legal Reform
- Facilitate relationships with the Judiciary, Nigerian Correctional Service, Legal Aid Council, DPP offices, and State Ministries of Justice.
- Engage in policy dialogues, stakeholder roundtables, and national consultations on judicial reforms and justice system responsiveness.
- Lead engagement with lawmakers, judiciary committees, and oversight bodies on issues such as pretrial detention, court efficiency, and legal rights.
Monitoring, Reporting & Evidence-Based Learning
- Monitor program implementation and track progress against key indicators (e.g., detainee case resolution, time to trial, court usage).
- Generate high-quality, evidence-based reports and impact stories to inform policy and program adjustments.
- Track and document delays in justice delivery, human rights violations, access to courts, and challenges in the legal system.
Legal Capacity Development and Public Awareness
- Organize civic education sessions, legal clinics, and sensitization drives to raise awareness on legal rights and procedures.
- Develop training materials and deliver workshops for paralegals, legal volunteers, and community-based actors.
- Supervise legal consultants and researchers contributing to program content and field research.
Partnership & Donor Engagement
- Lead partnerships with legal CSOs, bar associations, and paralegal networks to strengthen grassroots justice support.
- Support proposal development and grant reporting in collaboration with the Program Manager and Resource Mobilization team.
- Coordinate donor communications and contribute to strategic engagement efforts on justice reform.
Administrative and Logistical Support
- Provide coordination and oversight to state-based program officers and field staff.
- Support financial tracking, budget planning, and reporting in collaboration with the finance team.
- Ensure accurate documentation, timely submission of activity reports, and compliance with internal and donor requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, Political Science, Public Policy, Development Studies, or related field (Master’s degree is an added advantage).
- Minimum 5-7 years of relevant work experience in justice sector programming, legal aid, or access to justice-related initiatives.
- Strong understanding of Nigeria’s justice system, judiciary structure, and legal aid mechanisms.
- Prior experience working with or alongside government institutions, judiciary, or international donors (e.g., INL, OSIWA, MacArthur).
- Proven track record in program coordination, stakeholder engagement, and justice reform advocacy.
Core Competencies and Skills
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and advocacy skills.
- Ability to coordinate multisectoral partnerships and lead policy dialogues.
- Familiarity with M&E systems and evidence-based reporting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools.
- High ethical standards, attention to detail, and ability to work independently under pressure.
Working Conditions
- Office-based in Abuja, with regular travel to program implementation states.
- Interfacing with senior judiciary officials, legal professionals, and civil society leaders.
- Occasional extended work hours, especially around field activities or donor deadlines.
