Full Term Employment: Programmes Coordinator

The Incorporated Trustees of Sexual Offences Awareness & Response Initiative [hereinafter referred to as “Sexual Offences Awareness and Response Initiative (SOAR)], a local non-profit, non-governmental organization (NGO) focused on addressing sexual violence against children, is seeking applications from qualified candidates to fill in the position of Programmes Coordinator. The successful applicant will provide strategic, technical, and managerial leadership to all SOAR Initiative programs aimed at preventing and responding to child sexual abuse, promoting gender equality, and transforming harmful social norms in IDP camps and grassroots communities. JOB DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAMMES COORDINATOR

Position Title: Programmes Coordinator

Supervises: Program Officers, M&E Officer, Field Coordinators, and Volunteers/ Interns

Duty Station: Abuja (with travel to Benue State and other expansion areas as required) Contract Type: Full-time, renewable based on performance and availability of funding PURPOSE OF ROLE

The Programmes Coordinator provides strategic, technical, and managerial leadership to all SOAR Initiative programs aimed at preventing and responding to child sexual abuse, promoting gender equality, and transforming harmful social norms in IDP camps and grassroots communities.

The role will ensure that all projects are effectively designed, implemented, monitored, and reported in line with donor requirements and SOAR’s strategic priorities, while fostering an empowered and accountable program team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

A.  Program Strategy and Leadership

  1. Lead the design, planning, and implementation of SOAR’s programmatic strategies in line with its mission and 5-year strategic plan.
    1. Translate organizational vision into annual operational plans and program work plans.
    1. Support in identifying strategic priorities, expansion opportunities, and partnerships.
    1. Ensure integration of gender-transformative and survivor-centered approaches across all programs.

B.  Program Development and Resource Mobilization

  1. Contribute to proposal development, donor scoping, and concept note writing.
    1. Collaborate with designated staff to align donor interests with SOAR’s thematic areas.

C.  Program Management and Implementation

  1. Oversee day-to-day management of projects ensuring they are delivered on time, on budget, and within scope.
    1. Provide supervision and mentorship to field and program staff to ensure quality delivery without micro-management.
    1. Coordinate with finance to ensure proper budget utilization and accountability.
    1. Ensure safeguarding and ethical standards are upheld in all program interventions.

D.  Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL)

  1. Work with M&E to develop logical frameworks, theories of change, and implementation plans for new projects.
    1. Work closely with M&E Officer to develop and track program performance indicators.
    1. Facilitate documentation of lessons learned, success stories, and best practices.
    1. Lead quarterly and annual review meetings for adaptive management.

E.  Partnerships and Advocacy

  1. Maintain effective relationships with community-based partners, networks, and government stakeholders.
    1. Support advocacy initiatives targeting policy reforms on sexual violence and gender equality.
    1. Represent SOAR in coordination forums, donor meetings, and sectoral networks.

F. Capacity Strengthening and Team Development

  1. Build capacity of program staff in project cycle management, gender integration, safeguarding, and community engagement.
    1. Promote a culture of accountability, learning, teamwork, and well-being.

G.  Reporting and Communication

  1. Ensure timely submission of high-quality narrative and financial reports.
    1. Collaborate with Communications to document and share program impact stories.

KEY DELIVERABLES

  1. Annual and quarterly program plans and reports.
  2. Donor proposals and concept notes developed in collaboration with the ED.
  3. Documented program learnings, success stories, and impact assessments.
  4. Strengthened program team performance and supervision system.
  5. Enhanced inter-departmental coordination (programs, M&E, finance, admin).

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE

Essential:

  1. Master’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Social Work, Gender Studies, Development Studies, Public Health, Sociology, Psychology, or a related field.
  2. Minimum 58 years’ progressive experience in program management, preferably with NGOs working on gender-based violence (GBV), child protection, or women/girl’s rights.
  3. Strong understanding of gender, social norms, and inter-sectionality in humanitarian and development contexts.
  4. Demonstrated experience managing donor-funded projects (UN, USAID, EU, FCDO, or private foundations).
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent skills in project design (logical frameworks, ToC, results-based management).
  • Fluent in English
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including proposal and report writing.
  • Proven    ability     to    foster    team    accountability    and    performance    without micro-managing.

Desirable:

  1. Can work without supervision
  2. Experience working in IDP or post-conflict settings.
  3. Knowledge    of     safeguarding,     child     protection     case     management,     and survivor-centered response.
  4. Experience building partnerships with traditional, religious, and community leaders.
